ParticipantMr. Casey, that is one beautiful bike.

ParticipantI did a lap. It was good in a bad way.

ParticipantI wear a suit and tie most days and carry them rolled in my backpack. I only have a problem if I roll them too far in advance or roll them poorly.

ParticipantYou should both wear a scarlet ‘S’ for ‘shifty’.

There’s something not right about the bike…

It could be (and this is totally unreasonable) guys who ride fixies.
Given what I had to do to make it home on time last night riding across DC through really, really bad traffic, it could be reasonable.
All the drivers were on their best behavior just like they always are in this area when it rains…on a Friday…during evening rush…OneEighth

ParticipantThe only reason I am usually using a 48-tooth chainring is because it comes with my preferred crankset (SRAM Omnium).
I switch to Sugino 75 chainrings with fewer teeth when I put on fatter tires. Going to drop to 44 x 17 next time I run the studded 35s. Gotta use different chainring bolts, though, because the SRAM chainring is thicker than the Sugino.
Sorry, vvill, this probably doesn’t help you right now, but maybe it’ll be useful later and maybe it’ll help other folks, too.OneEighth
ParticipantPfunk—don’t you ride fixed/single speed?
I ask because I get the feeling some riders don’t understand how that affects pace.
I ride fixed.
Once I spin up, what you see is pretty much what you get from there out unless there is a noticeable grade change.
What that means is that I will pass you at the same speed at which I caught up with you—can’t switch gears and hammer away, after all. It also means that I may hold off on passing even after catching up because I know the terrain is about to make you faster than me.
I offer this up only to provide some perspective.
When it comes down to it, I feel lucky to have this commute as an option—most of the things that annoy me are more a reflection of my need to chill than a serious problem in and of themselves.OneEighth

Good to catch up, and nice to see you and be on a bike at the time…
Thanks so much for putting up with my riding this morning. Riding in with you the day after riding out with dcv really hammered home how lucky I am to have this commute.
Great start to what turned into a crazy day.OneEighth

Where were your lights? And then I passed Dirt going the other way by the W&OD 4.5 mile marker.

ParticipantThought I heard my name at one point. You were on foot heading east with a light on a lanyard?
Had an nice steady ride with dcv.
Thought I might have seen Dirt near the Falls Church firestation not long after, but was very slow on the uptake and too far behind schedule to turn, give chase, and ride a bit.
Couldn’t miss consularrider!
Clearly, my schedule needs to loosen up. -
