I ride the KB where people walk. It’s really not bad not unless you’re going way too fast. Plus it’s safer. There’s not a lot of room on the KB car travel lanes for a cyclist to bail out if he/she was in a spot of trouble. I’d like to ride another day thank you very much.

L&M is slow as molasses when it comes to responding to questions. I started a case (It is now a cold case) about a Vis 180 tail light that I bought from Spokes 3 years ago. I told them that the light mounting design builds up a lot of grime and dirt while riding in the rain. Therefore the pivot design seizes and eventually will break if forced open. No response to this day.

So I was riding in the great rain of Wednesday morning and my light was working fine in blinking mode. I charged it at work. And on the way home, the button for using the light wouldn’t depress. 2 days later, same problem. Any idea toward fixing it? I submitted it to L&M’s support side for their repair suggestions.

    Not designed for bicycles though.

Anybody know if a steel bike has enough metal to trigger the mechanism in this case? Just curious.

Look for those little cutouts (made by a concrete saw) on the road surface just before a traffic light. Usually ferrous metal triggers that.

So I took an exploration ride yesterday around Crystal City (among other places)

I was in the bike lane north on Crystal Drive, wanted to go left on 15th.

The bike lane places you to make a box turn (if you must turn) but the traffic was light, there were left turn only lanes, and I am growing in confidence, so I decided to try a vehicular left. Got into the rightmost of the two left turn lanes, fully taking the lane and waited.

and waited. and waited. several minutes.

Finally I (carefully) scooted back to the bike lane, and made a box turn.

As I was waiting for the light to change to cross Crystal Drive, another cyclist (more elite by his clothes and bike) went to the same place I had been. To make the same turn. and after about 10 seconds, he made his turn.

From where I was could not see if the light had actually turned, or if he had determined it was not going to, and blew through it (safely I might add).

I’m wondering if this, and some other lights around that area, are controlled by sensers that sense cars, but not bikes.

That’s the dreaded h20 bottle ejector section. I saw a few more down there when I was recovering mine from before.

    K,

Depending on the situation, Yes the bike might get damaged. Better that than stolen. Thieves hate to be delayed. If it’s an easy steal, they’ll do it but the element of surprise is the best part in nabbing these little boogers.

But if a thief does take off on the bike won’t there be a fair amount of damage when the inevitable happens? (I’m referring to the bike, I don’t give a rat’s butt about the thief)

When I stop at a 7-11 or a coffee shop, I loosen the nut on the skewers on my bike just enough that it’s hanging by just a few threads. This has become a habit so I never forget to secure them before I start riding again. Ok maybe once before. Reason for this is because if a thief wants to take the bike, he or she will try to make a quick getaway…..so I’m sure you know what will happen if the skewers are lose. Most thieves are dumb but there are the clever ones as well. Just keep it in plain sight before you leave your bike so that you can also easily respond if there’s somebody out there close to it that’s looking kinda shady. Just a note: DO NOT LOOSEN THE NUT ON YOUR SKEWERS JUST BECAUSE I POSTED THIS RESPONSE. YOU MIGHT GET HURT IF YOU DO.

I hate crossing this after a big rain event………..on my road bike. Although I did see some fishes one time jumping out of the water to cross upstream. Pretty cool. Can you guess where? Clue: A click away from train tracks in ffax.
