If there is a shutdown and you’ll be off work, where do you plan to ride? I know last time there was talk about closing the C&O, but that did not happen, so I am planning to ride it, and the Gap, to Pittsburgh finally. Will camp some nights (North Fork, Ohiopyle, Cedar Creek) but plan a second night stay in Frosburg at the Trail Inn.

Any one else got plans? Or am I being too hopeful and premature?

The C&O was technically closed during the last shutdown…all port-a-pottys were closed with steel bands (other than a couple the locals had cut open north of Hancock), and the well heads had their handles removed. You could still use a bit of muscle to get the pumps to work, but a few were very tough to get flowing…really a two person job. There were also the occasional ranger, but one could maneuver around where the were patrolling/wait till dark.

That being said, I don’t think there will be a shutdown.

She plead guilty, but has not yet been sentenced. The State’s recommendation carries a lot of weight, but that doesn’t mean the judge will take it.

Looking for a cheap jersey? This Canari is on sale for $12-16 depending on size. You’ll see that Canari apparently has a love for Game of Thrones…

The dam is on the other (south) side isn’t it?

I’ve ridden (slowly) over the lake view causeway…I didn’t look real hard for signs saying I couldn’t…and was directed to it by a helpful jogger after I passed by the small entrance the first time around. The surfaced is crushed stone/stone dust & more akin to a sidewalk through a park.

I was having extra trouble (noise and lack of grip) with my TRP rotor after switching to sintered pads on the front so I picked up one of the below. So far so good, and under $12 to my door.

Don’t the ROAM, Polaroid, and Monoprice versions of that camera all have the same internals?

I thought the ROAM was different. Polaroid, Monoprice, and a number of others are the same.

Amazon has the Pearl Izumi Barrier Convertible Jacket for a good price in sizes small ($31.54) and medium ($24.88) in Screaming Yellow color. Next best price is in the $90-100 range.

Note that Amazon prices fluctuate, and prices like these usually jump back to normal after one or two purchases.

I’d agree with you that BB5s are pretty horrible, and annoying to keep adjusted. One option that will probably get you longer than a week is to change over to sintered pads. Sometimes they’ll squeal a bit more, but they wear much slower.

With the long rear brake run you may want to look at something like the TRP HY/RD – a cable actuated hydro brake. The BB7 and TRP Spyre are both good options if you stick with pure mechanical, both are easy to adjust on the fly.

I’ve been thinking on getting an Arundel Looney Bin for that type of use…with just a bit more faith in not loosing it!

E bikes can have a place, as Martyn Ashton demonstrates. He’s the guy that was/is paralyzed while riding a little while back.

I should have consulted the wise ones of this forum before ordering either product.

RideCase – The back looks like a piece of cardboard laminated with plastic, like my high school ID card. The opening for the headphone jack prevents headphone plugs from going all the way in. This thing might actually be flimsier than the case I’ve been using on my iPhone. The handlebar mount looks more solidly built at least.

Drybag – Looks like it might actually protect the iPhone from the elements. Fits on the mount that came with RideCase. However, the plastic is so thick I can’t use the fingerprint sensor to unlock my iPhone quickly, which I might want to do so I can quickly record video of unexpected events during my ride. Disposable ziploc bag wins there. There’s also a warning to not use the Drybag on hot days because it might overheat the iPhone.

Oh well, at least I didn’t spend that much on the two of them.

    If they’re garbage return them!

Next thing you know there’s going to be e-bike world championships or something silly like that!

    Oh wait… http://drunkcyclist.com/2015/06/25/recharge-dumb/

“It is just as hard to ride an e-bike contest as a pure MTB event. On the flat sections we ride these bikes exceeding the limit of 25 km/h where the motor is no longer allowed to assist. So we have to push the approx. 20kg e-bikes permanently with pure muscle power. The routes also provide steep climbs that you would barely accomplish with normal MTBs – that ís where we and the bikes are riding close to the limit.”

Yeah, I dunno about that. Maybe such things are best left to pavement…or relegated to mixed use trails where dirt bikes (internal combustion engine types) roam.

I think CX bikes are meant to go offroad, right?
