ParticipantFound a lower price than Amazon for IceToolz Torque wrench. It’s $25.60 with free shipping instead of $35 on Amazon:
https://www.walmart.com/ip/IceToolz-Ocarina-Torque-wrench-set-3-10-Nm/940536717
From the description, you select the torque value, then turn it until you hear a click.
Edit to add: Not sure if the sellers on Amazon or Walmart ship from the US, but on eBay you get the same from US shippers:

ParticipantNot me, but I don’t see any pretreating on a major road next to me in Fairfax county. I would say assume the worst and be careful in downhill areas.

ParticipantI second mstone question, we don’t know about your background and how long you have been cycling, or whether or not you are comfortable with using clipped in shoes and pedals. You will get more responses if you provide more information.
With that out of the way, here are MTB pedals with sealed bearing and pins for extra traction:
http://exustar.com/index.php/products/pedals/mtb-pedals/advanced-mtb-pedals/e-pm823-detail.html
You can buy them here for $45:

The above seller is based on Owings Mills, MD 21117, next to Baltimore, and they ship the same day, so you get it in a day or so. I found these by using Google–>Shopping and searching for “mtb sealed pedals spd“.

ParticipantI guess that means it costs $108 or less to make.

ParticipantI saw in REI Fairfax branch Novara Arm warmers (Store brand) on clearance for $6.84. They have 5+ small size, and 3 medium size. I didn’t see anything larger. They have this in a bucket labeled “Clearance” near bike accessories. I don’t see this item listed online.

ParticipantCyclists who have cars with “Don’t tread on me” license plates should put the same sign on shirt or bike as drivers with said signs behave as if it’s short for “Don’t tread on me, I am the only one who’s allowed to tread on everyone else.”

ParticipantRoute 7 over Dulles Toll Road intersection(See Google maps) is getting grade-separated multi-use paths(MUP) to be completed by Spring 2018. I saw two long ramps leading to two pedestrian bridges on both sides of RT7/Leesburg Pike from the east/south side of RT7. It looks like they would finish in few weeks, but VDOT says Spring 2018. The MUP would be 14 Feet wide, and will tie to future trails according to VDOT:

ParticipantHere is a wheel set from Nashbar for $125* if you are willing to wait till 12/29:
http://www.nashbar.com/bikes/Product2_10053_10052_603921_-1
They feature sealed hub bearings, aerodynamic rims, but have 36 spokes both for front and back, so it’s a bit heavy. There are lighter ones with 20 spokes, but they would require more frequent truing. If you can’t wait, here is another option for $180:
http://www.nashbar.com/bikes/Product2_10053_10052_582917_-1
Last Tuesday I ordered parts from them in the early morning, and I received it on Sunday, so it takes 5 days to arrive with the free shipping option.
Edited to add: These wheels have 130mm frame spacing for rear wheels, which is for road bikes. If you have upright hybrid, then don’t order these, look for wheels with 135mm frame spacing. Front wheels always have 100mm spacing for road/Hybrid/MTB, with or without front shock.

ParticipantREI Garage(Online only) has 300+ cycling items among them several Sigma Bike computers for sale from $12.55 to $94.30. This includes 25% off ending today, Sunday Dec 3rd. Free store pickup by Dec 6/7. They also have in-store/online $20 bonus card if you buy $100 worth of stuff. You also get 10% member dividend on the $100. The bonus card is for one use only, so if you buy $15 total of stuff, you lose the rest of the balance. They carry sealed square taper bottom brackets for $20, which is the lowest I have seen locally.
December 1, 2017 at 7:09 pm in reply to: NOVAParks is going to start pre-treating the W&OD when snow & ice are in the forecast #1078955n18
ParticipantGood to hear, I just hope nobody blows the W&OD trail the wrong way like some roads. I hate to see the W&OD f’ed up like some streets for the rest of us. If it’s covered with snow 36.5 Days/Year, that’s 10% per year. If mess was made while blowing, 90% of the year and thereafter it would be filled with potholes and the like, too expensive to repair. The right time to blow snow is before it turns into ice. Side roads get more damage because contractors are busy clearing main roads, while on side roads it thaws and refreezes. So if a good samaritan blows the W&OD on his own, I would freak out. There is no way to know if that person would do the same when snow turns into ice or not. I do support blowing the W&OD, but only if it doesn’t do any damage.

2) Completely opposite story… The past few mornings riding north toward PA Ave., there’s a REALLY friendly jogger who from the side path actually looks over, has a big smile on her face and lifts her hand above her should to wave at me. She HAS to think I’m someone else right? I mean I appreciate the nice gesture and in return give a smile and head bob but I’m a nobody, and does she do the same for every cyclist she sees? Here’s to hoping she keeps it up when she realizes that we don’t know each other. Haha.
It’s known that doing sports turns women’s on/off switch to on.
