I made it home last night on the MVT from the 14 St. Bridge to the Tulane crossing on the GWP south of Belle Haven Park without clipping out. Maybe 2 or 3 dicey spots, but I had 35 cross tires on. Even on road slicks, you’d only have to hop off a couple times. It’s very rideable.

Edit: I took Royal through Old Town and avoided the MVT stretch between the split up to Slaters and Jones Point Park

What’s the deal with the spiny burrs on the MVT south of Old Town? Are those chestnut burrs? Regardless, they are abundant and annoying. I pulled a spine out of my sidewall the other day after flatting. They are getting trampled down over the past week, but I’m still ducking and dodging them on the trail. Don’t remember them being this much of an annoyance in previous years…

Yo! I’m Mike and I like long walks on the beach.

I live south of Old Town Alexandria and I commute to work in DC daily. In 2015, weekend group rides were common for me, but with the arrival of a baby girl last month, my ride time will certainly decrease in 2016. After cycling in the area (somewhat solo) for almost 7 years, I joined the folks at Bikenetic last year and dusted off the MTB shoes. I was road/commute focused until the last few years when I got into more gravel riding and ultracross races. Last year brought a handul of MTB and CX races, as well… a trend I intend to continue in 2016.

For Freezing Saddles, you’ll see alot of commutes from me and a handful of sleaze rides on the weekends. If the SO and the little one give me the green light, you’ll see me out there for some Saturday/Sunday rides.
