ParticipantPeople and yelling things… gets to me.
I gotta say, the “now that’s a ride baby” was excellent to hear.
“hey white man” is baffling… yes, it’s true, but I’m not the only one who lives or bikes east of the river… I’ve gotten that one a few timesThe one I was expecting, but had yet to hear, happened yesterday… the classic “get on the sidewalk!”

ParticipantI wonder what the bike around the fallout plume route would look like. Probably not as good a way to draw attention to your cause.

ParticipantInterested… but there’s nothing about length / route. FAQ’s are very interesting, but not about the ride. Is this something I can talk my wife into? A good first trip for the 1-yr old in a trailer?

I just bought that Topeak Road Morph pump (in the H. Meatmotor post) as a gift, and I’m a bit envious. It looks pretty sweet.
I’ve had two of the road morph pumps, and they’re generally excellent. However, my last one didn’t quite fit into my trunk bag, and the water bottle attachment was inoperable, and I started putting in in my trunk bag and zipping around it… needless to say, I lost it on my commute a few months ago. Now I have a Nashbar pump that fits in my bag… so, regardless of how nice the pump is, it’s only to the degree that it’s practical to carry it with you.
Also, I found the other day that once one opens the tube of glue for patching, it should be checked periodically. I got out my patch kit to help someone fix their flat, only to find my glue had dried into a somewhat moist paste. Needless to say the patch didn’t hold and I gave the fellow my spare presta tube (his was a schraeder valve). The next week I found that my front wheel had developed a flat, after more than a year, and that my previous patch was still good. I’m debating storing the tube with the hole unpatched until I have one or two more (this may take years) so I use a whole tube of glue in one session.

Thanks for the clarification. Yeah that one is a doozy.
So what’s the over/under for how many of the people on the strava leaderboards drove up the hill in their cars or motorcycles?
hozn is #2… you can ask him! My guess is the faster motorized trips have been flagged there. Whoever is climbing Meade – Rhodes westbound (strava segment) at 27 mph is going faster than I think is possible.

I can’t see what will possibly be gleaned from the last two questions other than “people don’t understand what causes congestion”.
The rest of it makes sense to me: commute start and end points + non-commute trip modes and travel times.
Wouldn’t it make more sense to have commute start and end points and commute modes and travel times? I for one make two commutes per day and very few non-commute trips per week, and the non-commute trips are generally not into Virginia. Commuting is 95% of my weekday travel, and it would make sense to have mode and time options to input for that, instead of only start/end points.
This is a horribly designed survey.

ParticipantWhat an odd survey. I am baffled by what the data will help with.

ParticipantI was walking around Toronto, that and I’m on a different NBC team. should I switch alliances? Will past miles be added to Washington Area All Stars?

ParticipantWe are talking about riding through the cemetery, not around the outside, right? I thought that most roads inside the cemetery were already off-limits to bicycles, or that you could go one-way on certain routes during certain hours only.
Who owns/maintains the trail by Rt 110 between Memorial Bride and Netherlands Carrilion / Iwo Jima?
mello yello
ParticipantYeah, there’s one mountain bike that’s always locked to a lamp post, but definitely no bicycle infrastructure at ANC Metro… they really really don’t like bikes, apparently.

ParticipantStrava says I passed Gillian while she was stopped at the Arlington Cemetery Metro entrance… at like 9:30 this morning.

ParticipantDuring yesterday’s deluge, as I was heading home:
Me: making my way down 15th St N in front of the Jail, having just run into a puddle and soaking my shoes
You (lady in a blue coupe): throwing open the door of your car and charging out like it’s on fire.
Me: Woah! + evasive maneuvers with water sheeting down the street.
I hope you got wet. Missed connection indeed!Later…
Me: crossing MLK Ave to head up Good Hope
You (dude with dreads): Sup White Man! (at least, I hope it was ‘sup, not something like I’ll f you up, white man)
Me: h-hey (puts on burst of speed)mello yello

I had a Gutr and have a Halo. For me the Gutr seemed like a good idea, but was quite uncomfortable
Thanks! The design makes it look like it’d be effective – I pulled one up on Jenson and their reviews were pretty bad but the Halo got a lot of good feedback. Looking back through the forum archives, it seems like all the recommendations on here are for the Halo or Headsweats caps/headbands.

Of course the solution is n+1.
Well… now that you mention it, I have all the pieces for the 29er, I just need to build N+1. Of course, if I ever rode the vintage Soma it might also have been an option. Taking out the backup bike requires a backpack or other carrier instead of the trunk rack.

ParticipantI was going to be a little late for CCCC until I grabbed my bike out of the garage to find… that my front tire was completely flat. I must be awful at changing tires because it took me about 20 minutes. Well, I had to go get a new tube out of the house, then the darn wheel was so incredibly filthy that it got black gunk all over everything, and I decided I needed to wash it down… so that had something to do with it. By that time I decided to skip the trip to the (by now) empty CC water park, and go straight to work. The humidity made it a very wet commute. I am seriously thinking of something like the sweat gutr(R) headband to keep salt out of my eyes.
