ParticipantYes, he said something along the lines of “I’m an officer of the law. You HAVE to stop.” so not only did I have to brake, unclip, veer and steer I also had to get a polite sentence together that basically said, “I’m trying to but don’t want to hit you…”…Hypothetically.

ParticipantHypothetically…
The officer was standing off to the right side and had several other cyclists around him. He stepped quickly out into the road in front of the hypothetical female cyclist. Held his arm out in front of him and told the hypothetical pair riding together “you need to stop right here” or something along those lines.
In the short distance in which the female hypothetical cyclist was given to react to the officer now standing suddenly in the middle of her path, she had a heck of a time trying to stop in the short distance, unclip and steer to veer around to avoid hitting the officer.

ParticipantYup, there will be a bike corral set up next to the venue.
Megabeth
ParticipantYes, yes indeed! Looking forward to this. I’ll be part of the Arlington contingent. Going to fill my bike basket with picnic goodies!

ParticipantAlthough I didn’t Kill Bill, I’m glad I was there to at least quarter him.
Also…got several QOMs, guys, thanks for the lead out and encouragement.
Again, thanks, Pete. You are Good People.

Sorry, rule #5.
Riiight, Rule #5 is already engaged with wearing awesome heels, bicycling and then standing up the rest of the night in them. (And, then wearing all the gravity defying underpieces, don’t get me started…) Nice try, though.

ParticipantAlso, another tip, I go ahead and throw on a pair bike shorts under my dress so that I have a little more protection for the sensitive parts. Typically they are my tri-shorts with a little less padding, but much better than having no padding, at all.
Megabeth
ParticipantOh, noooo, little black dresses and biking *do* mix.
Last year, it had a “jazz theme” so there were a lot of flapper outfits and the like. The Monte Carlo theme doesn’t lend to anything specific, but it is indeed a great dress up event. But, you’ll see people there in all sorts of outfits (formal to t-shirts to bike gear). I found this video of the 2012 event…around :48 in you can see what people wore last year: http://vimeo.com/62198971
That all said, if you’re uncomfortable riding in heels, wear your outfit w/ another pair of shoes and throw your dancing shoes in your bag. I try to dress up a little because I’m usually seen in my spandex or commuter gear so it’s nice to show up to something wearing something girlie…even if I’m riding in on my bike.

Participant‘Tis an awesome party. (And, I always look forward to seeing acc’s awesome outfit…)

Always loved how ya’ll look all tough and aero and meanwhile there’s my little photobomb peace sign in the back wheeling along as if it’s a Sunday stroll in the park. Ha!
Megabeth
ParticipantSo, yeah, can I borrow someone’s kid?
Seriously though, since I am actually sans kid, I’m good for eyes and ears and to bring up the rear during the ride. Would love to see this happen in Arlington. Rock on, dasgeh!
Megabeth
ParticipantWoo-hoo. Thanks! (Can you tell I’m having “one of those days”?) See ya’ll tomorrow!
Megabeth
ParticipantOk, now I’m dizzy…when is this happening?
Are we having the Arlington Coffee Club on Thursday morning or Friday morning?
Once that’s clear, we should probably post a separate thread announcing the get-together to avoid confusion.

ParticipantWould love to see a FCC-Arlington. Perhaps I could propose The Java Shack? They are cyclist supporters and it would be lovely to give back to them…
