ParticipantThey still print maps on paper????

ParticipantI use an Android app called MyTracks. It will GPS datalog. The app overlays your tracks on a google map which is handy when I get lost. And when you’re done it will upload to your google account creating a google map, and if you use Google Docs, it will make a spreadsheet for you too. It talks too. I have it set to announce in my earphones every 15 minutes my time, distance, and speed.

ParticipantRemember (everyone), all you know is you crashed and were found on the ground unconscious. The unconsciousness is always assumed to be a result of the crash. But if WHY you crashed is a mystery, it is entirely possible the crash was a result of unconsciousness rather than the other way around. If you pass out while riding for whatever medical reason, you will obviously crash and remain unconscious on the ground. So you might have something going on that caused you to pass out, rather than an injury from the crash. Or both. More reason to get checked out.

ParticipantI’d make both back wheels fully equipped so I can drop the quick releases and swap the wheels with nothing more than pulling the chain over it. I have no idea how much the full back wheel setup costs. Presumably more than a $30 front wheel. So I’ll probably buy the back wheel after bonus checks arrive.

ParticipantYa probably. Believe it or not I have never ridden anything but a mountain bike and have never experienced road tires. I’m also cheap. So I think I’ll let the mountain bike tires I have now wear out and when they do, I’ll get something much more road favoring hybrid tires for it.

ParticipantNope. Just the rim. I get bored very easily and removing each spoke and reattaching to a different rim should keep me occupied for most of a Sunday evening. 😎
Yes, I meant WHEELS. Complete. With spokes and hubs.

ParticipantYa I think the aggressive tread won’t change my ride too much. I’m already riding a mountain bike with mountain bike tires. Nothing super mean aggressive, but not easy rolling road tires by any means. So some aggressive snow tires will probably not be much different on dry pavement for me. Though I’m thinking about getting two new rims so I can switch them off when I know the WX and road/trail conditions will be be bone dry for the week.

ParticipantThe air boat reminds me of the Orbitz commercial.

ParticipantI was referring to post #8 regarding mistakes made at work where he says “I do not make such mistakes“. Right after explaining how only certain people are allowed to be considered professionals. It just blows my mind that he keeps talking about it in this thread and at the same demands that I not to talk about it. I’m sure if I agreed with him, he would have no problem with my alleged “ad hominem off topic replies”.
Of course, by his own hollier than thou definition of “professional”, the police certainly meet his definition word for word. So his most recent smearing of anyone that isn’t a doctor, lawyer, or scientists is probably the most absurd thing he’s posted yet. Though I will give him this much… his screen name is appropriate.

ParticipantThat situation would apply when the officer(s) are controlling traffic. A police officers orders take precedence over established traffic control devices when the police officer and/or temporary traffic control devices are there directing traffic. Once the officer or temporary devices ceases directing traffic, the road goes back to the established traffic control patterns.
For example, the police have a section of road closed for a parade. On any other day, it would be legal to ride there. The officer says no, road closed, stay out. But once the road is reopened after the parade, it is back to normal.

Again with the emotive attacks. On the contrary, I conclude you are the one with the attitude.
Says the guy who’s original post that started this thread was an emotive attack. Don’t dish it out if you can’t take it.

ParticipantThat’s why I like the bike lanes on Penn as opposed to G Street. G Street, the bikes lanes are nothing more than a space to double park. On Penn, they’re in the middle and have deliniators. Much less bafoolary. Other than u-turns in the middle of the road.

ParticipantI didn’t think I was crossing the line given he posted that he is by default a professional and does not make mistakes. I agree with your assessment of this forum’s decorum and I don’t want to change that. However I am having difficulty finding a more appropriate description of this individual’s apparent attitude toward the world. I could probably have done without it. But for the discussion in general, he opened the door to this by creating a post about it.

ParticipantMy coworkers are wondering what I’m laughing at… Dances with Buses and human bowling. Tourists make me want to mount chainsaws to my handlebars.
So you’re saying cut onto Virginia Ave from Rock Creek (by the boatyard) then E street to Ellipse? That looks better than the Penn-K Challenge. I will have to try that out this weekend. Do you think DDOT would even notice if we started painting bike lanes down Penn from Georgetown in the middle of the night? Some black and white paint and reflective deliniators won’t cost that much.

I believe the term “profession” has been used a bit loosely of late. A profession is typically characterized by a governing State wide or National organization which tests, certifies and licenses an individual in that profession. This certification typically requires a review on a periodic basis. If this certification lapses or a violation is made by the individual, the license can be revoked and you are out of a job.
A professional, as I am, also considers one’s actions and confers with colleagues prior to taking action or making decisions which impact those they serve. In this context, I do NOT make such mistakes.
I now ask that you keep your comments regarding the legality of the situation or comment on the zealousness of the cop. I am clearly in my right to commute to work on my bicycle without being harassed.
Ok. You never make mistakes. I’m sorry. I didn’t know I was having a conversation with the living breathing version of perfection. No wonder you hate the police so much. Your so arrogant, you feel that you are a professional simply by definition and you never make mistakes because of that. Therefore any interaction with the police MUST be automatically wrong since you are obviously always right. In fact, the arrogance of this is doubled since not only do you feel this way, but you actually come right out and say it!
You have no right to tell me to keep my comments to myself on your arrogant jerk attitude towards police. You made that matter the primary focus of your very first post. If you didn’t want to hear other people’s opinion on the matter, don’t spew your own on it.
