I did the Mt. Washington climb on Saturday. What an amazing event. I went in with 24×12-30 gearing. I used the 24×27 about half the time, and 24×30 the other half. Average cadence was 83, and average power 219 watts. Weather at the top was 39 degrees with 35-40 mph winds. What’s strange is how 7.6 miles at 12% eventually becomes normal. The 18% sections seem hard, the 12% sections seem OK, and the 8% sections are a chance to yank your gloves out of your jersey pocket and put them on, or take a drink from your bottle. Everything became relative.
Very cool iam so jelly

ParticipantI have had both and prefer the hitch rack. I put hitches on both of our cars and use one rack for both

ParticipantYou must be proud. And I am sure you could have done the 50 on the gap.

ParticipantI cheated. A great friend gave it to me. It was broken but 2 dollars in hardware made it work for this. The other 12 bucks was for a drill bit long enough for the 6×6.
I am really happy with it. Park tools wanted 250 for a wall mount stand.
The best part is that is a park tools clamp.mcfarton
ParticipantTake a break. And great work losing all that weight. If you sre feeling down go find a bag of anything that is 60 pounds. Pick it up and feel better about all of your progress.

ParticipantI have rode in Amsterdam and it is taken seriously there. Pedestrians and cars are second. It was a blast on the dutch cruiser.

ParticipantStarted great. Took this about 20 miles in.
About 5 miles later
Then about 8 miles from home
Wet feet the whole way home. I hope my shoes dry out so I can ride tomorrow.

ParticipantWhen I ride solo I have Bluetooth headphones. I link with my phone and use mapmyride and Pandora. I wear the headphones around my neck. Both of my ears remain open.
I can rock out when I am climbing. But when I go down hill I reach speeds where all I can hear is wind. If I am over 30mph I take over the lane.
I am also not riding in the city. Most of my rides are on rustic roads.
Many of my friends and family complain about my headphone use. I do ride without occasionally, like when I forget to charge one of them. But I find myself missing it.
In my opinion riding with cars is dangerous no matter what precautions you take. So if you can’t enjoy it whats the point.mcfarton

ParticipantThis just sounds like torture to me. But I may be dumb enough to try it. So who is going to start a group ride?
