DAMN YOU CHERRYDALE
(Trail culture is the best. Many people offered assistance…. well, except for that forum guy who went blowing by with his BA vest on
)
Sorry, but I find your Cherrydale curse amusing.

ParticipantWas awesome.
Stopped at HumpDayCoffeeClub and had a cappuccino with some nice folks, then rolled over to Hains with Dirt. What a beautiful morning.
Dickie you really don’t know what you are missing. There were zero cars and few other cyclists, great views of Rosslyn and airplanes taking off and landing. We were even able to ride two wide and hold a great conversation without angering drivers or other cyclists.

ParticipantI am planning to be at HDCC in the morning. Anyone else?

Is it a “missed connection” if you know the offender?
No names to protect the guilty, but my wife and I were left gobsmacked by a totally crappy and dangerous maneuver by someone we recognized….it really sucked!
We were heading west to Best Buns (shocker) on 4MR in Shirlington and stopped at the South Shirlington Rd. pedestrian cross walk behind a gentleman walking two large golden retrievers. I leaned forward to push the button for the flashing light when from behind a cyclist forced his way between my wife and I and nearly hit the dogs, no stop, no warning, straight into traffic and through the light. We all looked at each other with absolute disbelief at the rudeness and complete selfishness of this act, never mind the risk! It was then that I recognized the rider…. I just didn’t know what to say, luckily they didn’t realize it was me that they schoaled since it would have been a very uncomfortable confrontation.
Totally ruined my day!
Time of day? Is the offender on Strava? Let the witch hunt begin.

Dear US Government SUV driver at 15th & K, I know you have good insurance, but I would prefer you didn’t pull out in front of myself and anoter cyclist when we had the ROW at a green light.
I rode the 15th street cycletrack for the first time yesterday. OMG. It was car after car making a left turn on red.
Between that and the general speed and crowdedness (is that a word) of the cycletrack I dont think I will take 15th much in my future.

ParticipantI vote A and C.
Or F. Find the truck parked at night and slash the tires.

But I am indeed confused if even vehicular cyclists are opposed to 14 ft lanes. I mean yeah, taking the lane and all that – but we ask for three foot rule for passing. For a standard width vehicle that should be possible in lane in a lane this wide, no?
This basically describes the entire stretch of annandale rd. that you seem to dislike. Annadale/Hummer is wide enough for cars to pass me safely without crossing the center line. I never have to cross into the parking/shoulder area, which is good because its full of all sorts of debris.
My question is, if you have 14 ft. wide lanes why not just stipe a bike lane and make the vehicle lane 10 feet?

ParticipantI might try to take the CCT into Wakefield park, and then the Braddock rd sidewalk (on the north side of the underpass) to Glen Park Rd. Cut through the park there and cross over Wakefield Chapel and pick up the Long Branch Trail. This will dump you on Olley which has a paved side path down to Braddock, where you can pick up the side path.
There might be a better way to cut through a neighborhood at the Olley end of the trail to avoid Braddock, but I have never explored back there.
You could also get off the CCT at Mockingbird and cut through my neighborhood and take the Wakefield Chapel Rd bike lane to the Long Branch trail

ParticipantThis might not qualify as a “missed connection”.
You were very apologetic when we both stopped at the 7-11 on Gallows/Electric, the only problem is that I wasn’t planning on turning there until your car struck me on the foot. Next time please check your mirrors before turning across a bike lane.

ParticipantIs this guys insurance company flat out admitting that their client was involved in a vehicle collision in which he fled the scene?
