I caved. I took WMATA. Oh what an unpleasant experience. Other than I could pound away at email the entire trip, I just dont get it. Ballston stunk like an electrical fire. The train was over crowded. The train kept stopping because “there is a train in front of us.” It is faster by bike (and then there is the exercise thing)
Well… it should be 10 degrees warmer tomorrow.
Dock that rider a day’s miles for slacking on the job. The way he’s bellyachin’ around here, you’d think it was a 110 degrees below zero. Hell, it can’t be less than 14!

ParticipantHi, all. We’ve got some action on Senate Bills today. You should see a WABA alert shortly (and I’ll post it here for those who aren’t – gasp! – WABA members yet).

ParticipantJon, I appreciate that you’re trying to provide info to the forum, but I think the photo isn’t necessary at all. It’s a very sad bit of humanity that doesn’t need to be forum fodder. Please consider removing it. Thanks.

Awesome — Will Lynn has three days on Jan. 2. However, he’s riding in Australia, so it’s already Jan 3 there! Plus it’s summer!
Point of order. This, as the Despot Cannon says, is FREEZING Saddles. I move to strike all miles until VVill is as miserable as the rest of us.

This is probably best put in another thread, but this one inspires me to note that if you’re looking for a great tool for riding mapping, RidewithGPS.com is where it’s at. Strava’s mapping/planning features are minimal, and MapMyRide is a UI nightmare. Features don’t match up, last I checked, either.

ParticipantSome points:
1) I think trainer rides should count. Anyone who can put up with that ()*@#@ deserves some credit. Believe me, I would not be a beneficiary of this rule.
2) Team 3 may well, in fact, turn out to be the Blue Train.
3) Pete should be his own team. I know he has at least five voices in his head.
4) Cannon’s a despot.

ParticipantIs this where Captains get to make people walk the plank? Because that’s really the only reason I wanted to be a Captain.

Daniel AlexanderOkay, kids, here you go, Team Liebe Zu Dritt. Here’s your theme song.
If the competition is KOMs, I suggest we take aim at Team 8. If it’s sheer miles in the saddle, watch that treacherous Team 7.
And I think Team 11 needs to come into existence, stat.

ParticipantAs noted above, the Suitland Parkway sidepath/trail is absolute crap.
If I had a military ID, I’d roll straight to and through Bolling, up Malcolm X, and over on MLK. The Blue Plains/MLK is a good alternative, but pretty sure it’s hillier than the Bolling route.

ParticipantRiding in Anacostia’s just fine – anyone who says it isn’t safe hasn’t even tried.
As to your proposed commute, having quick access to Bolling makes it especially easy/safe.
If I were moving here to work on the St. E’s campus, I’d take a close look at places in SW Waterfront & Navy Yard areas. Very walkable/bikeable, and puts you right in the middle of things.
Good luck!

Glad I don’t use instagram, but if I did, here’s my answer to the issue (feel free to use as necessary):

ParticipantHi, folks. Since Megabeth’s apparently just going for a long ride on Sunday, it turns out that I’m going to play DS on the ground. I – along with a number of awesome volunteers – will be manning the sign-in/feedzone/finish/tourbusobstaclecourse at the end of Hains Point.
I don’t have a full logistics checklist together yet, but if you’re planning to bring something to share with others, and you haven’t already indicated that in your signup, drop me a note via email (mbatblacknell.net)? Marc, if you want to bring some chem-warmers, or Bilsko wants to help with the AM coffee? Awesome.
My only challenge at the moment is trying to figure out how best to deal with water. The fountains are on, and I’m really not a fan of giant cases of plastic water bottles. At the same time, I’d like to have some water on hand. Anyone happen to have those wirerack/tap setups to use with a 5 gallon water jug? Or know where they might be gotten locally?
Honestly, when this first came together, it was conceived as an entirely self-supported ride with friends and their friends. And to some extent, it’s still that. But with so many generous offers of help, prizes, and whatnot, I expect the feedzone to be an excellent place to hang out, grab a bite between laps, and get any assistance you could possibly need*.
Really looking forward to this.
*But no one wants to hear about your issues with your mother.
