ParticipantGood work everyone.

ParticipantBoth 11th and R are busy bike thoroughfares. I live on R west of there and there is a constant stream of cyclists pretty much all day (and much of the night too). 11th has become a preferred route into downtown, along with 15th. Hope this cyclist is OK.
+1 on the book.

I agree with Fairlington. This is a classic right-on-red violation. Even if the car did come to a complete stop (which may or may not be the case), the driver is still obligated to wait for any persons in the crosswalk before proceeding.
+1 on the book.

ParticipantBack in the day there used to be a car rental place somewhere at the south end of CC, just south (or under?) the bridge to the airport. That area back behind the CSX main was used for overflow parking. Not very exciting, but I see you can get through to the Parkway, which makes it kind of cool.

ParticipantArlington seems to be on a tear with bike enforcement these days. They’re thick as flies in Crystal City too. I don’t even do the right turn – U turn – right turn jig any more at red lights when I see a ArlCo cruiser around. Good luck in court! I don’t think you have much of a chance, but you never know; it might get reduced, especially if you were and are polite.
General question — do these infractions result in “points” on your driver license? Anyone know for sure?

ParticipantKnowing when the Ellipse and the Park are closed would help a lot. Unfortunately, closure happens quickly and firmly, and as far as I know, there are no Tweets or anything about it (not that I am following Twitter while riding). So I don’t see that as happening anytime soon.
Better to have a regular permanent WH bypass on H and I.

I do this every single time I give out my email on a form. Then when I get a spam email I can see who it is addressed to and it tells me exactly who gave out my email.
Hey now! I had no idea they offered that. Will have to try it out.

Participantbtw, you know where it is, right? First and N Streets SE. See map here. There is a garage entrance here too.
If you have extra time, check out the Anacostia River Walk Trail. I was watching the Cubs TV feed last night and their production crew ran some B-roll of scenes from the trail and the waterfront.
Err sorry it’s between N PLACE and N STREET. There is both an N Street and Place in that area. Garage and bike shack is between the two.

ParticipantI’ve used it. There are two guys down there for the game, not sure if that means the entire game. You need a claim check to take your bike. Don’t lose it!
I still locked mine up, and I think the Nats recommend it. Wouldn’t want to make it any easier for thieves, right? They would know if someone just wandered in looking for pickings.
And yes, I did tip those guys a couple of bucks. (I had some twos from the bank)
C’mon Nats, beat those Cubs!

ParticipantThen it should be called a race and run as a race, with qualifications. It is not marketed as a race. I rode in this a couple of years ago and learned that quickly: while it is not a race, it certainly feels like one on the road.

Participant“It’s not parked in very often,” she said.
I’ll just let that stand on its own.

ParticipantDamn. Just damn.

That would require ceasing awarding the “gold” medals, which can only be awarded to people who basically take the course at race speed.

Came upon this person driving on the W&OD today (Monday June 13, 2016 W&OD in Vienna, VA between Branch Rd SE and Electric Ave around 2:50pm). Not sure where this person got on or eventually got off of the trail but when I caught up to her you can see a kind pedestrian leading her out…
The side roads coming in to the trail … are there bollards at those entry points? Could the person have easily turned off? I wonder if that’s how they got on, accidentally or if they were just looking for a quicker commute.

ParticipantHaving come through there a few times since the crash, one perfectly doable solution came to mind, and that is to simply trim the bushes that are right up against the path. It has grown up quite a bit now that foliage here has pretty much leafed-out. Trimming it back would provide better sight lines.
In fact, I may do just that this weekend.
