I just signed up for this, cause Judd told me about it. Presumably Komorebi signed up too since she is our gang leader. We can all get a whole WAAS peloton going.

I’ve thought about bypassing MVT taking Eads or the secret road up through Crystal City, but that doesn’t get me around this particular grief point, and I’m not a huge fan of that trail connection.

You can bypass those shittiest parts of mvt around gravelly point by continuing past the crystal city water park entrance up crystal drive, turning right on to long bridge drive/boundary channel drive to go north around the pentagon, and then right turning into a parkinglot to cross a wooden bridge which leads into the park/marina parkinglot. That then leads into a loop-around over lil MVT humpback bridge and onto the 14th st bridge. Try it sometime it is a good route which seems to only be used by experienced commuters.

    [LSG],

Thanks for reaching out. I was forwarded your message about the B.Y.O.C. Club at Crystal City Water Park. It sounds like an awesome event and we are

Unfortunately, Arlington county does not permit mobile vending earlier that 8a. However, I’m happy to coordinate on a private event or to arrange for the bike to get out to be set up and ready to vend at 8a or even a little earlier.

How long does the group typically meet in the mornings?

    Thanks,
    Mike

Looks like people have a good reason to join the 8am crew!

Hey thanks a lot for the suggestion to use the strava widget instead of a shortcut. I can already tell that is gonna help a lot with cutting out my “forgot to hit record a second time” incidents.

    Ya just missed us.
We noticed the cold brew trailer on the other side of the park by the VRE station when we were all leaving at about 7:50 and ended up staying till about 8:10ish?
It’s good stuff! BTW the cold brew cart is a credit card only business.

She said she can’t come earlier because it would require like getting into the store at 5am which I understand is a lot to ask… I wouldn’t want to do it.

Staying at the park past 8 makes me kind of obnoxiously late to work, so I can’t do that every time :( just some times 😮

That jersey is decent, I’d wear it if I won it :).

Serious question – Could someone please remind me again why the NBC is worth all the pain in the ass things with the stupid website??

Generally when things are so problematic and annoying I just stop doing that thing until someone fixes it… BUT, if in this case logging our miles is so important for the DC region that we should deal with it, I will reconsider.

It’s not. At this point it’s just kind of habit/tradition. I want to see how much better I did than the year before, but it feels less engaging this year. Rivalry/drama with gainesville had made it kind of interesting. People here were generally more engaged and talking about stats and stuff last year/s. Now I feel kinda sad.

Dunno who else it affects, but just a reminder to check every once in a while:
I had to log out and log back in to the NBC site just now to get the last few days of rides to sync.

It was another good one. Good to see ArlingtonRider and W&W (and all the rest of you). Nice surprise with Revolution setting up their tent right next to us. Who arranged that? Dunkin Donut Munchkins and free Gu packets. Pinky worked his magic on Ian’s headset. I could have stayed all day…

What was the fix for Ian’s spinny headset?

Rumor has it that Reba talked the Commonwealth Joe coldbrew trailer into stopping by the water park early next Tuesday, which could bring revolution to the CCCC, comrades.

Boy, I wish video evidence could lead to law enforcement action in things like robberies or trespassing cases.

~Obligatory I’m an armchair semi-interested idiot on the internet, not an expert caveat~
What I’ve come across is that muscles and red blood cells store energy in the form of glycogen which is basically the first thing your body converts through contact with oxygen into simple glucose (sugar) to burn for energy during exercise. Having some form of sugar, the simpler to digest the better, in your belly keeps your glycogen levels “topped off” for longer. The depletion of glycogen in your blood and muscles is what leads to “bonking”, or that famous wall of energy loss you can get in endurance exercise. You can think of your heart and red blood supply as basically your first and most important muscle for endurance cycling, it’s why things like EPO, blood doping, altitude training, Froome or Lance’s abnormally gigantic tickers exist in the pros.

How you do this is highly personal, eating while riding makes a lot of people queasy, I find that eating a clif bar about once an hour if I plan on going relatively long or hard works for me. (bonus that they’re vegan?) I haven’t been on any rides longer than 4 hours without stopping and I’m not a racer either.

Bump to remind that Crystal City Coffee Club is tomorrow, and it would be great if people continue to show up despite the incredibly beautiful weather :p

I’m going to try to show up a lil early and leave by 7:00 because I really have to be at work on time tomorrow, boo, hiss :(
