1/9/21 – Balloon. Happy hunting!
On January 9, 1793: “Blanchard made the first balloon flight in North America, on January 9, 1793, when he ascended from the Washington Prison Yard in Philadelphia and landed in Gloucester county, New Jersey. This flight, observed by President George Washington, spurred interest in ballooning in the United States.”

1/8/21 – Bell (but not on a bike) OR an Elvis
January 8 is Elvis Presley’s birthday. What were at the bottom of his jumpsuits? Bells! Post a pic of a bell that isn’t on a bike OR an Elvis you spot on your ride (just 1 pic please). Happy hunting!
Josh – the only acceptable answer from you (and only you) is the Liberty Bell since you left us to go to Philly

ParticipantHi everyone, I’m Laurie Ellis. This is my 5th year doing FS and I love riding in the winter, it keeps me from getting sick. I am a League Cycling Instructor (LCI) certified by the League of American Bicyclists. I teach private, League and WABA’s learn how to ride classes, bike safely classes and confident riding classes. Since the pandemic, I been teaching lots of private lessons. I am on the leadership team of a local biking group, Black Women Bike: DC and I advocate for better biking infrastructure and safe streets for everyone. Like Brian, I love riding at night.

Although, it appears you missed the deadline
Steve O, I did not missed the deadline because they did not go into effect until 1/4/2021. He gave us until the 1/4/2021 to figure out how to participate in this pointless game, so since I get it in on the 4th, I met the deadline.

1/4/21 – In honor of National Spaghetti Day, take a pic of an Italian restaurant, preferably one you like and/or serves spaghetti. Caveat is that it can’t have “zz” or “Garden” in the name or the sign. Happy hunting!
Also, starting on 1/4 going forward, I’m going to be a hardarse, so please read and follow the rules in the original post. Thanks again for playing

Nope, didn’t missed the deadline because it is not in effect until today 1/4/2021.

This was absolutely correct, but I have added a new rule going forward:
Took the picture before you added the new rule that bikes had to be in the picture. I saw people post yesterday without a bike. Check the rules and it didn’t say that the bike needed to be in, so I didn’t put my bike in.

ParticipantNow I have to go back and chance all of my #tags for the errands rides, but you got it included!!!!
@BeeTinDC 203703 wrote:
I’d like to sponsor Errandeering, similar to last year’s rules. Riders may count one errand per ride (if you are running three or four errands in one ride, you’ll need to make three or four separate rides). Errand rides may NOT include commutes to or from work, coffee runs, bagels with your boo, riding to the meeting place where you and your pod will meet to ride, or rides with your pod.
I will be watching leaders, and I will judge you relentlessly if I think you are having fun out there while you are supposed to be doing chores. If there are questions as to whether a ride counts as an errand, you may request the matter be adjudicated by a highly partial jury of myself and Laurie E. At the end, the winner will receive a Highly Treasured Selection from The 2020 White Elephant Gift Swap Stash.

Here’s an example of a good entry because:
- It was posted on the day for the day it was requested
- It states the date and the found item in text
- It has the picture in the thread. Unfortunately, posting just a link to another place (like Instagram, Flickr, etc.) without the picture is too hard to track. You can link to the pic somewhere else, but please include the pic in this thread for it to count.
The description and location (in green) are optional, but nice.
The easiest way to post with your pic is to “Reply With Quote” directly to my request for the day, that way my request is encapsulated in your response.

P.S. how to wormhole under I-95 at National Harbor near the Wilson Bridge w/out becoming Road Kill!
Sent from Boomer_Cycles via my iPhone using Tapatalk
So that’s a wormhole, I ride through it every time I go to the Wilson Bridge, so if I take a picture of it, will it count? Or is it too late because you already claimed it?

Doesn’t look “freely accessible to the public” since it’s fence off.

ParticipantWhy did you exclude MD from this game? FS is for the DMV, not just DC and NOVA.

PLEASE READ
After endless councils of the Wizards of Yore, and in consultation with Orcs on Bikes, we have brewed
CALVINBALL 2021: The Rise of SkyHobbes!Calvinball is a hot-potato cycling game that celebrates creativity and stoopidity, like Burning Man or politicians. The rules are made up and the points don’t matter. There is no winning Calvinball. There is creativity and inclusion.
The game shall be played on the FS FB page. There shall be a post on FS FB page foretelling the location of the Calvinball.
Obey ye these rules but three (these be the only fixed rules to Calvinball).
(1) Find the Calvinball while cycling. Post on THAT thread for THAT hide on the FS FB page ASAP that the ball has been found (so others waste not time gazing for it)
(2) Hide the Calvinball while cycling within 36 hours ⏱️, an easy enough find that even a can find it
(4, NO THREE!) Make a NEW post for the new hide on the FS FB page that includes a clear description of how the Calvinball can easily be found
Points and new convoluted rules seem too flustergutted for 2020. We need a game that even the peasant Dennis could comprehend.
Heed not my warning and be tossed to the Bunny! Calvinball is a competition of creativity, not number of finds. The winners are those who make us laugh If the game delights the elves, there shall be a final round of hides with fabulous prizes for the winners.
Wait! You said there would be no winners!
No I didnt.
Yes. Yes you did. In the paragraph abaaarrrrrggghhhh
Sorry. The typist has been sacked.
Hog-balls will be cursed If you have lots of finds, please wait before going after a hide. Think about hiding the ball so that new players can join.
Calvinball is a hot-potato game, not a hide-and-seek game. The goal is to keep the ball moving, not make it hard to find. Please state CLEARLY how to find the Calvinball.
Hide the ball generally amongst the cycling trails around DCNOVA. Avoid federal land. Avoid anything that might scare people who dont know the game (dont hide the ball where it might be confused for a bomb – yeah… this happens all the time with geocaching).☠️
Also – as funny as it is – please do not hide hard liquor in the Calvinball. It was funny. But it could also go very very wrong.
Participants please consider donating to either Phoenix Bikes or Gearin Up.
I am Tim the Enchanter , I have spoken.
