Nice! One silver lining of the recent cold temperatures is not having to worry about keeping food refrigerated on the ride home.

ParticipantThanks for captaining and setting up our Strava club, Jeff!
It was great to meet some of our team virtually at the happy hour, and I hope to meet the rest of you soon. I live in Alexandria and have been doing Freezing Saddles since 2015. I went car-free in 2020, so I rely on my bike to get around. The fact that I’m still working from home and not bike commuting will mean fewer miles for me than previous years, but I’ll do my best to get in ten miles each day. I usually try to make it to the Arlington or Alexandria coffee clubs each weekday morning, so drop by if you want to meet up. Also, if you need Freezing Saddles swag, let me know and I can hook you up.
Here’s a photo of my cat:

She figured out pretty quickly that whenever I put my bike helmet on, I’m heading out the door — so now she’ll run to the door, lie down in front of it, and block me from leaving. In order to get out, I have to leave a treat for her on the other side of the living room and then sneak out the door while she’s busy digesting her treat. Yes, she has me well trained.

ParticipantWelcome back, Dickie! I remember meeting you at my very first HDCC all those years ago and being intimidated at the prospect of talking to a Forum legend. I’m glad you’re on the mend.
Attendance at the coffee clubs has been sparse lately because of the weather and omicron, but I try to make it (masked and boosted) to the Arlington/Alexandria coffee clubs most days. Hope to see you at a coffee club soon!

So, this one DOES NOT COUNT for this year’s FS2022, because i took the photo last summer, but I wanted to post it anyway since it is the largest thing I have carried on the trike so far. Someone was throwing out some tomato cages, and I happened by on the trike and snagged them. Thank goodness I carry bungee cords with me on my rides!
Nice haul — in more than one sense!

Is there a hashtag I should use in the strava title?
No need for a hashtag — I’ll be judging submissions based on Forum posts in this thread. Looks like a great party!

On today’s ride, my cargo was books. I went out to the library to return a book and pick up some new ones! Really excited to read Last Night at the Telegraph Club, I’ve heard great things about it.
Hooray for libraries! I also frequently bike to the library to check out and return books. In fact, I just returned The Black Jersey to the Aurora Hills library in Arlington, if anyone wants to check it out before the DC Tri Club Book Club meeting that bikedavid mentioned.

Participant1/11/2022 autumn leaves
There’s a mural in Del Ray that celebrates a number of local traditions, including the annual Halloween parade and Art on the Avenue (an art festival usually held on the first Saturday in October). In the “R” and “Y” of the mural, the backgrounds include trees with autumn leaves.

ParticipantThere are still a lot of blocked curbcuts and icy spots on supposedly cleared trails, so I brought a collapsible shovel on my ride today.

ParticipantJanuary 6, 2022 at 6:09 pm in reply to: Question for the lawyers – are comments on Strava subject to FOIA? #1115732komorebi
ParticipantI can’t speak to state FOIA laws, but the federal FOIA generally only applies to agency records that the agency has control over. So unless the elected official is using Strava to conduct official business, it’s unlikely that the Strava comments would be FOIA-able.
The usual disclaimers apply: I’m not providing legal advice, no attorney-client relationship has been formed, blah blah blah.

ParticipantToday’s photo hunt theme is “cone,” so I decided to make it a two-fer and stop by one of my favorite local gelato shops, Casa Rosada. The owners are from Argentina and serve Argentinian-style gelato. They’re also super-nice and now recognize me whenever I stop by (which is often). The store is closed for the winter, but I’ll be back after they reopen in March. Read more about the family at http://www.connectionnewspapers.com/news/2015/jul/30/cold-treats-summer-heat/.

Participant1/5/2022 pentagon
At the Whole Foods in Pentagon City, the numbered signs for the checkout lanes are pentagons instead of the normal squares. I’ve always found that a nice nod to the neighborhood.

There’s a globe sculpture off Hoofs Run Drive in Alexandria that commemorates Alexandria’s role as a global trading port:

I did my ride early this morning before the storm hit, but I bet the sculpture is a literal snow globe right now.
