ParticipantWow! I completely understand the reasoning, but that is a bummer. I know a bunch of people were looking forward to that…

ParticipantRemember everyone! Anything can happen between now at 12:59pm!
On a personal spin (ha!), I couldn’t be happier with this year’s NBC. I managed to finish up the year with 2,300 miles-even!
Each year my goal has been to do a little better. Two years ago it was to just hit Gold, last year was to hit Platinum and 1,000 miles–and I ended up getting a little over 1,300. This year I set out to do a bit better and shot for 1,500.
In the end I got nearly 1,000 more miles than last year, snagged Diamond (first time!), and most surprising to me, rode 147/153 days! 😎
Thank you for all of the great opportunities to ride (those happy hours add up!), companionship, and motivation! This summer has been a blast!
(And tomorrow my bike goes into maintenance mode…)

ParticipantMy favorite review so far:
***** Stars “Works perfectly! Couldn’t ask for a better experience.”
By Seabisquick on September 21, 2015:This works as a most excellent boat anchor. Not sure why Amazon has it categorized as a “bike”

The next date I could organize and participate would be October 30/31, which we could do in costume.
Yes! This! I have a panda suit that would be high-viz! (Plus I wouldn’t be traveling anymore. Oct 9/10 I’ll be wandering around Sendai.)

Traffic today felt worse than usual, I guess people didn’t get the memo…
Really? I took my usual route and it was noticeable how fewer cars there were! I’d love to think it was all in honor of Car Free Day, but by God if the Pope can’t preform miracles pre-arrival!
In both the morning and evening regular chokepoints like Washington Circle were much smoother than usual. Going home the traffic along the Roosevelt Bridge around 6:30 looked more like it does around 8:30! (Yes I’ve been working late of late…)

ParticipantYES! I DID IT!!! With today’s commute I cracked 5,000 points to hit “Diamond” for the first time!
That means I made both my mileage goal (2,000) and points goal with a week to spare!

ParticipantAlas I suspect by midnight on Oct 2, I’ll be in the last hour of my flight to Japan, somewhere over Hokkaido (depending on the flight path). Though technically it will that weird “twilight zone” where by crossing the international dateline, I’m not going to experience midnight on Oct 2…
So I’m likely not going to make it. Bummer!

You know, of course, that the Blue Water has roll off/on service from Chicago to Port Huron.
Oh no WAY! I would have loved that when I lived back home/was going to MSU. The Amtrak goes to East Lansing, but it was a hike to get back to where I lived. That would have been awesome.
That said, my little bro goes there now. I need to tell him!

ParticipantOh man, I use those bike lanes in Crystal City all the time! Now that there is that nice Potomac Trail from Braddock through Potomac Yard and up to Crystal City I use those as my primary means to connect back to the MVT.
The idea of sharing the lane with those transit buses without the safety (at least in my head) of a bike lane to demarcate “bike goes here” and “bus goes there” is horrifying.

ParticipantSo long as this cold I’m fighting doesn’t leave me unable to ride I’ll be there! (Though leaving early)

ParticipantI had to chuckle when they announced the date. A workday? Of course I’ll be Car Free. A workday in September? Of course I’ll be on bike! :p
Kitty
ParticipantHa! Wouldn’t you know it would be this year that I did my first metric and standard century. For funzies I might look back on my NBC logs to see if I got close to the distance for bronze, but the whole thing would be in Map My Ride! :p
Anyway, I’m still glad you sent this out now. It will give me the next few months to think about it!
Though here’s a question, does it have to be one century per month? Or can we say, double up in August/September when there are so many events going on?

ParticipantI agree that the rain made this year particularly hard. It meant much longer rest stop breaks than I prefer, causing my muscles to cool down (and making it had to chase Boomer, Bruno, and the other marshals pictured when they sped through some late lights. (Fortunately they waited for their charges… most of the time) :p
All of that aside though, this was my third time doing it, and my first time with a group! It made the slog all the better to roll with the same crew from start to finish, and then to meet up with the other forum folks at the end! I’m so glad I got into this community and met so many people, and then was able to ride with them on this.
Despite the “DAMNIT BOOMER” tally reaching 6, thank you sir for your marshaling and letting me ride with you! In conditions like that, on a ride like that, it really meant a lot to me to have someone on the road ahead to follow after, even if it meant chasing sometimes.
