It was! They completely sold out and it was a beautiful day. Surprisingly even the cars by-and-large seemed to be in a decent mood and many drivers patiently waited for the long line of bike at the trail crossings.
It felt really good to be able to get some distance in and was even better to see familiar faces

I can’t make your happy hour, but best of luck on your new adventure. It sounds awesome.
Thanks for the best wishes! I know this is short notice, so I totally understand.

KittyParticipant(Cross-posting from here)
With apologies for the short notice, “the gubment” decided I need to leave for Brazil ASAP. Please join me for a drinks and “see-you-laters” tomorrow evening!
What: TTFN Happy Hour for Kitty and Kali
Where: Quarterdeck – 1200 Fort Myer Dr, Arlington, VA 22209 (Basically ride to the Marine Corps Memorial/Iwo Jima and you’re almost there.)
When: Tuesday, March 12, 5ish-7ish
Why:- After an 11-month holding-pattern, Kitty is taking off!
- She’s trying to execute an international move in double time and needs a hug and a mug. Q.Q)
- Despite her better efforts to NOT set roots, you all integrated her into a community of friends and now she’s sad to go.
- BAFS Points (Miles, beer… are hushpuppies dumplings or doggies?)
How: By any means necessary.
I hope to see some of you there! Swing by on your way home or make the trip and enjoy the weather!
KittyParticipantDang! I’m afraid I’m already booked for Wednesday evening. T_T
Since I need to stay close to home for packing purposes, then I’ll swap it to the Quarterdeck… on the hopes that someone will buy me a beer and a crabcake.
Here’s the post with the deets~
KittyParticipantThanks so much you guys! I really wish I could’ve been more engaged these last couple of months, but I’ve been burning the candle at both ends as it is. That said, I agree that a send off should be had!

So what are you doing next Tuesday or Wednesday? Wednesday is the Rosslyn open house at the CEB Tower. We could meet nearby for happy hour that evening and people could check that out if they wanted.
Monday is BPAC. Thursday a whole bunch are leaving for the weekend to ride in the Croatan Bick Fifty.
So Tuesday/Wednesday seem to be the best candidates.
Give us a couple hours of your time, Kitty, and we’ll try to give you a proper send off. This is super helpful! I had been eyeing the end of the week as it will be post moving day, but seeing more folks is more important. Tuesday is my best bet.
With the 3 jurisdictions, it’s hard to choose one (espcially that has bike parking and a broad beer list)… but I’ve heard good things about High Line in Crystal City?
KittyParticipantWelp. And so it’s come to this. At the end of grueling, riding-time eating diplo-boot-camp, I was reassigned Sao Paulo. This wasn’t a surprise.
What was a surprise is I just learned they want us there ASAP. As in, they wanted me to leave next Tuesday. 😮 Long story short, I was able to get it pushed back a bit, but my new departure date is Monday, March 18th.
Sadly, this doesn’t leave much time for the goodbye tour I would’ve liked to have arranged, but hopefully I’ll be able to see some folks before I go–I should have more time to do that next week.

Funny, I’ve been in DC for both Snow Days. We’ve had 16 school snow days where I am in Michigan (quite a few local Gov’t shutdowns too). Appears DC area is made of tougher stuff than Michiganders.
Might also have something to do with Michigan’s horrible unpaved road system and rotten paved road maintenance that makes it too dangerous for school buses.FWIW my family back home have been perplexed by the closure state of affairs. My mom is convinced kids don’t go to school anymore.
As for the roads, they just straight up suck. My father-in-law has a theory about the stranglehold of “big concrete” keeping M-DOT from using asphalt like a civilized realm. Others point to a moral aversion to road tolls. Whatever the reason, you can actually feel the difference as soon as your cross state lines.

Tomorrow, February 20 will be another chance to add mileage to your Michigander Prize total. Finally, a race!
KittyParticipantKittyParticipantHey guys! So sorry to have missed the fun of the first couple of days. I’m just now through the woods on a nasty ~72 hour bug. Just in time for the snow!
Thanks for the reminder on the Strava link up. I knew there was a step somewhere I forgot…
KittyParticipantLadies and Gents! It’s OFFICIAL!!! Despite the storm being over the weekend, despite a huge bulk of the government (including yours-truly) on furlough WE HAVE A SNOW DAY!!!
Henceforth, miles ridden on January 14, 2019 will count for the Michigander Prize! Non-essential, or not, get out there and have some fun.
KittyParticipantThat’s it! Best team name already!
