I could possibly meet at New District on Saturday afternoon. I’m planning on doing the Port City Pedals & Pints ride which is open to everyone:

Is two breweries in one day too many?

Hey! Thanks for the heads up on Pedals and Pints! Usually I have an engagement on the 3rd Saturday of the month so I wrote it off as a “would be nice but can’t” sort of thing. However, this weekend I’m free so I’m going to be there!

I’ll have my BAFS band around my handlebar stem (silver Trek with Christmas lights). Give a wave if you see me!

As for New District, I’m afraid I can’t do two breweries in a day (this time of year anyway). I need to head home eventually. ;) Next time though!

I actually was able to read the whole article (what a great image renderer!) I love the fact that apparently cyclists have been going up MacArthur to the falls and beyond for over a 100 years! Morever, even then cycling on Mt. Olivet near Bladensburg was not for the faint of heart.

I would certainly love to go on a revival ride. The trick of it will be figuring out what’s still there, and what has been renamed.

I regret that the combination of attending the Transportation Research Board Conference, and family obligations has prevented me from riding today. I hope to at least get in sleaze rides in the next couple of days.

Back and forth to the office, yes, because it’s only 2 miles one way and 2.2 the other, and it takes my GPS 15-25 minutes sometimes to find Mama Satellite. I just don’t have time for that. :( But any time I do a ride beyond my daily commute, I’ll wait for the satellite to find me. Like trips to Hains Point.

Hey, if it makes you guys feel any better, I’m only about 2.5 miles from work, and 1.3 miles to church (my regular “commutes”), which most folks seem to deem “sleaze rides.” 😎 I’m going to go for constancy.

Hello everyone! Sorry for being late to the introductions party.

I’m Kitty/Grace (and with the former being a long-time nickname, I will answer to either in a real-world setting). I’ve been commuting/erranding by bike since I came out here for grad school in 2009, and for the past number of years gotten gradually more into cycling as a hobby. Each year I’ve had a new goal/challenges: 3 yeara ago – join National Bike Challenge and attempt the WABA 13 Colonies Ride; 2 years ago – attempt WABA’s 50 States Ride; Last year – (get a new bike with more than 7-speeds) attempt a century. (Last year I also joined the forum, joined Phoenix Bikes – “All the Cycle Ladies” group, and rode further than ever in the NBC… I’m now linked into the community and addicted!) Having done all these these, I suppose this year is starting out with my first time doing BAFS and first time using Strava!

This winter I’ll do my best. Previously I took the Metro more than I’d like to admit in the winter, but this year I’m going to try to do the commute by bike as much as I can. (Sadly its only a bit over 5 miles round-trip!) In the past I also didn’t do long weekend rides this time of year, but I’ll try to make up mileage on Saturdays, especially if we get any team rides going! With that, I hope I can ride with you guys this season.

I had my first week commuting on the CrossRip. I’m happy with the bike (not so much with my experience at Revolution Cycles though). It’s a lot smoother than my entry level road bike and only a little bit slower despite the extra weight of the rack and panniers. I like the suicide brakes although they eat up a lot of the handlebar space for my accessories.

I went from a 7-speed entry-level hybrid to the Crossrip, and while not as fast as the road bikes with my rack, kick-stand, and fenders, it didn’t stop me from getting in some serious miles last year. I can only have one bike right now, so IO needed something that could do a century on Saturday, and grocery shopping on Sunday.

Admittedly, it seems I only use the suicide breaks when I’m waiting for lights to change on a hill, we’ll see what winter brings though.

I asked Santa for something small, expensive, and unique… probably should have mentioned “bicycle related”

Man, I was going to to excitedly share that I got “lobster claw” riding mittens, and $50 to go toward a set of road wheels, but I think you have us all beat. Congratulations!

If I had a quarter for every time I’ve heard men quibble over the color pink (“It’s not pink, it’s light red/rose/pale amethyst…”) I’d be well on my way to my new bike wheels! :p

Enough on the color, I can’t wait for the picture! Now that I finally understand the rules (and have a new phone with working camera) I can’t wait to get in on this!

Just be warned that my tastes in ceramics run distinctly Momoyama Period with Northern Pueblo for spice, and I have a very, very soft spot for all things wood fired—one of my anagama-fired teapots is basically dedicated to brewing Guranse.

    Two questions:

Are you speaking of the ostentatious imported Chinese pieces used in the early part of the Momoyama period as symbols of conspicuous wealth? Or of the rustic wabi-sabi aesthetic that developed in the mid/late Momoyama period? ;)

How does one prove points earned? Just post about it here with photos?

It occurs to me that this is the sort of Happy Hour where there will be announcements and things happening. There is no way I can be there by 5 (my regular office hours go to 5:45… assuming I get out on time), is there is certain time we should shoot to be there by if we don’t want to miss anything?

No, you should include the entire state and make it a true challenge. After all, the UP gets the highest annual snowfall in the US. :)

    …Former Yooper

I should’ve said “mittens”–gotta love a state that you can map out with both hands. Much love to the Yoop as a hardcore Northland that doesn’t bother plowing the roads in favor of driving on it instead!

In other news, while I was in the “Mitten State” I tested out out car on its first errands in the snow to procure 6 unique Michigan craft brews for my prize. You will find no Bells, Founders, or New Holland in this box, but a mix of beers and small-scale breweries. 😮

Hey hey! Back from holiday travel and now able to RSVP for Thursday! Apologies for not doing so sooner, it’s been go-go-go for about two weeks now.

I’m glad to hear that this was something that did happen some time ago, because it did spook me, especially after reading the intersection-of-doom post. Even if it’s been that long, it is still a dangerous patch I contend with on a regular basis. I just hadn’t witnessed an actual accident there yet…

I’ll be there! I’m still deciding on if I can come up with any fun-festive identifier that works with my gear, but I’ll follow up on that when I figure it out. I’m aiming for the 100k.

I’m in for the morning, but will need to scoot early, probably by 11:00. Hoping to tow the unicycle down for a one-wheeled lap.
Also, I will have the Freezing Saddles ankle bands, so keep an eye out for me.

How much are those again? I’d definitely like to get one and this looks like my last chance before I hit the road next week.
