ParticipantI’m torn! Riding down to the afternoon pit stop at New District would mean more miles for the NBC… but Heavy Seas is next door to where I live!
I mean, I could hit both, but then there is the matter of getting up early to ride marshal the Tour de Fat bike parade (which awards me two beer tokens).
Who knew DC’s “big bike weekend” was code for “big beer weekend”?!

Note to self: Must leave work early May 20th.
Ironically, I am always conspicuously late to on Bike to Work Day….

ParticipantI am seriously interested in this. I haven’t been to Richmond yet, so its a nice excuse. Beside, it ends in my backyard in Rosslyn! I just need to commit the funds…
Kitty
ParticipantI’ve been looking forward to this for MONTHS!
I’m usually super excited for the NBC (I think this might be my 4th year?) but this year is especially special. A few weeks ago we finally got my husband a bike. His first in about 10 years. He’s riding to work every day now and has just now signed up for the challenge! His commute is short, but it should be an extra 100 points a week at least!
My goal is 2,500 miles. 😎

ParticipantIt just occurred to me that with some folks being unable to attend, some prizes may go unawarded! Should we try to reach out to our winner(s) in advance? Or is the plan that awardees take their prize home and try again later? (Newbie)
In any event, I’d be happy to help with the awarding in any way needed. (Prize distribution, standing on furniture to get people’s attention etc.)

not sure if I made public my Pointless Prize.
All Work and No Play.
Highest Percentage of total rides that are commutes
awarded by data from Strava with rides tagged as ‘commute’put me later in the awards, i probably won’t be there for the beginning of the final HH.
I might have a shot at this! Most of my rides were commutes…

ParticipantI’m sorry that I couldn’t make it in the end! I had my gear waiting by the door, an extra batch of cookies baked, and understanding party guests–every intention of heading out! But when 10:30-11pm rolled around, I realized that despite my better efforts, our merriment left me in no condition to ride. Ah well.
I’ve enjoyed seeing the photos and the Strava uploads. Hopefully next year I can be at both the starting and closing events.

ParticipantI hope to be there for at least part of it! When do people typically start showing up for this? We’re celebrating my husband’s birthday on Saturday so I’m going to try to sneak out… with cookies. :p
Kitty
ParticipantI think it was harder to ride in Singapore with 91 degree/100% humidity weather than the 30-40 degree stuff most of the winter… 😎
Kitty
ParticipantI’ll be there, with the Michigander prize for snow day riding.
I likely won’t be able to get there before 6pm though…
By the by thanks for arranging. Is there a cover/contribution this time as well?

ParticipantAww too cool! When I see those on the road I will acknowledge the mark of the badass.
Bummer that I was ineligible from day one due to holiday travel.
Kitty
ParticipantHave fun with the beerneuring guys! I’d love to join but my little brother is visiting and lacks the requisite number of birthdays to take to a brewry. That said, I’ll be getting my ride in while the kid’s still asleep.

Both those places show up on the Strava heatmaps, so as long as you have a phone with GPS or a dedicated GPS device it should work just fine!
That is SOOO helpful! I’m going to use that to chart my course since the “Bicycling” overlay for Google Maps isn’t available for that.

When I used my phone in another time zone, and it was the next day here in DC but still the previous day there, it still assigned my ride to the previous day (local time). However, when I use my Garmin, it uses DC time zone (I think).
Good to know! I’ve looked into how to adjust Strava entries for time in case it gets funky. Hopefully no one will fault me for aligning it to DC time for BAFS purposes

What a coincidence! I will be in Tokyo next Monday and Tuesday and Singapore next Friday. I know that Singapore does not have a bike share system. Unfortunately, my schedule is not conducive to finding a bike and riding during the trip. I was hoping that it would be pushed off after FS, but no luck.
That is nuts! What a weird coincidence. Well I’ll be (hopefully) riding around free on Thursday in Singapore if you want to grab a drink for some Sing-style Beerauneering. (Though Tiger does not really count as beer…)

ParticipantHey everyone, I have some bad news (as far as BAFS points go). It looks like I’ll be heading off to Asia next week for for a work trip, so that’s a number of riding days I’ll be missing out on.
That said, I’ve put a lot of thought into this, and I’m going to see what I can do about bike rental in Singapore and Tokyo, and I may be able to make the timezone thing workout for us. A morning and an afternoon ride in either place would straddle our day/night divide.
I’m yet to see what Strava will do overseas, but looking forward to finding out!
Interestingly enough, it looks like Tokyo recently installed a bike-share system. I was excited about that for a second… before I discovered that they are all e-bikes and therefore not helpful. 😡

I’ll volunteer a prize for the person who rides in the most states, and another one for person who rides in the most countries.
I’m not sure what the prize will be (maybe some Adventure Cycling Swag?!), but it will arrive priority mail to one of the organizers of the ending happy hour.p.s. data people, is there an easy way to do this? Let me know, and if not, I will painstakingly follow each and every contestant and check daily for their ride locations!!!
I was hoping there’d be an international one! I just got confirmation of a work trip in early March…
My first thought for tracking was the Strava maps, but I’m not sure if it tracks you if you don’t have cell data where you’re at?
Kitty
ParticipantOoo neat! I haven’t ridden out in Baltimore yet. Has anyone done this one in the past?
