Happy hour is totally worth skipping class for.
Specifically this one… and the closer.
I can wait for this! Last year this was a really fun venue, and penguin-welcoming.

ParticipantOh hey! That’s also available as an audiobook through the Arlington public library via the Hoopla service. I listened to it during this past Freezing Saddles. (Safely on trails/out in the country at a reasonable volume of course.)

ParticipantAre there “Honorable Mentions” for us fools who got sent to the ER and then tried to keep riding despite the advice of medical professionals?
I can’t wait for this! As anyone of my generation, I of course want to be the very best, like no one ever was.
A few questions:
- Can we get credit for riding dressed as a pokemon? (Asking for a friend…
This looks like a fun Federal Holiday project!
I noticed this wasn’t on the big group calendar and put it up.
Thanks again for checking in on the schedules! I thing this timing and the venue are going to be perfect! (Love that stage and the beer menu )
I’ve really loved how folks have kept their tags from last year on their gear year-round. I was a HP once and lapped by a bunch of roadies (as usual), but had to smile when I noticed one had the green tag!
Besides, they make great conversation pieces as I’ve been stopped by fellow commuters who asked where I got ’em.

*Kitty, having managed to survive the Oct-December treadmill of holiday and professional obligations through triage and caffeine, now turns her attention to the next thing: BAFS. Over coffee she reviews the sticky and notices a rules change from past years. Sealing herself, she ventures into the thread she swore never to enter, the dreaded “Rules and scoring thread.” Patiently, with an eye on the clock since she needs to gear up to ride to church, she goes through 11 pages of temporally crystallized early-December to come to this spot…
She grimaces and takes a sip of her coffee before holding up a finger that seems to speak for her ‘Now hold on just a minute…'”**
Eleven pages. Eleven pages of bickering, and I didn’t see a single thing about not accepting manual entries this year. Did I miss that somewhere in the applied calculus theory-crafting of pages 2-5?
Can I get a referee to explain this to me? I get trying to avoid cheating, but my phone (aka my “Magic Strava Machine”) is reaching the end of its life and prone to dying in cold weather. (Say nothing of the times when Strava fails on a whim) This causes me to have to do a follow-up Strava post to log the missing miles. I wish I could just rely on an error-free upload but that’s not the case.
In other news, I have another Pointless Prize I’d like to do. Announcing the “Taste the Rainbow” prize! This will go to those who ride on each of the 6 bikeshare bikes in a single ride (documented by photos).
Formal rules to follow. Plus I might make this a time-sensitive one limited to the week of St. Patrick’s Day…

For your archnemesis, add a stipulation that Hains Point miles don’t count
Joke’s on him! If he wins, he receives Michigan beer.

These almost never happen any more even with substantial snowfall since the vast majority of federal workers can telework. You should consider changing the rule to “days designated for unscheduled leave or unscheduled telework”. This is how most “Snow Days” go down now.
Unless, of course, you just want a very high probability of recognizing Michigan Day.
Our office uses OPM as the source for whether we close for snow (we’re not Feds) so it represents a fair yardstick. Besides, it is precisely because of the severity of the event that results in the full closure that makes this a challenge. Open but telework days are pretty lame as far as weather events go. :p
All that said, I appreciate the insight. If we go a second year in a row with no snow-days, I’ll reconsider.
I’m in, I’m excited, I’m amused by the proliferation of first-timer posts across multiple threads! 😮
The Michigander “You call THAT a snow day?!” Prize, will be back for its much-anticipated 3rd season.
A 6 pack of Michigan-brewed beer imported from the Mitten State will go to whomever rides the most miles on OPM issued “Federal Closures” due to winter weather (aka govt’ snow days). If like last year there are no snow days, the fall-back option is most miles on Michigan Day (Jan 26)
There might be some other fun stuff included as well, separate thread to follow.
I know I can’t wait! It really is the rolling Holiday Party of the local bike community. Besides, its great to go into year-end family gatherings humble-bragging: “So last week I rode XX miles in this charity ride and…”
I am probably going to lone-wolf getting there (my departure time is dependant on the fickle NCAA football fairies) but I’ll definitely be wanting to join the convoy’s home. I don’t want to be alone in the dark when its that cold. A solo mechanical wouldn’t be good.
I’ll see you all when I see you! Look for the party hat!
