2/5/21 – Stationary Clock or Other Time Telling Device
On February 5, 1924, the Greenwich Time Signal (aka the pips) was introduced; it marks the precise start of each hour.
During your ride, capture a stationary clock or other time-telling device in a photo and post here. “Stationary” means something that is affixed or doesn’t move easily, and not something like a wristwatch or phone. Wall clocks are fine.
Happy hunting!

This is the Memorial Sun Dial at the entrance to the Walker Nature Center in Reston. The sundial is in memory of Vernon Walker, the founder and first director of the nature center. It’s number 369 of the Sundial Registry of the North America Sundial Society. It is oriented to tell true solar time.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

2/4/21 – Rose or Rosa
Civil rights hero Rosa Parks was born on February 4, 1913. Because she defiantly refused to move to the back of that bus many years ago, her action has improved all of our lives.
On your ride, find either a “rose” or “Rosa”, snap a pic, and post it in this thread.
Happy hunting!

Rosedown Dr in Reston. Couldn’t find any explanation of why this name was given to this street. There is a historic site owned by the State of Louisiana and is one of the most intact and documented examples of a plantation complex in the US south. It serves as a rich source for studies of slavery. Not clear that the street name has anything to do with the plantation but I couldn’t find any other information when I googled “Rosedown.”Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

2/3/21 – “Ritchie Valens” subanagram: the word, 5-letters or more
On February 3, 1959, musicians Ritchie Valens, Buddy Holly, and J.P. Richardson perished in a plane crash in Iowa. The event later became known as “The Day the Music Died“.
On your ride, find a word (i.e., not the thing) on a sign using just the letters in Ritchie Valens’ name. The word has to be 5 letters or more.

2/2/21 – Dog (but not your own)
On February 2, 1925, dog mushers arrive in Nome, Alaska riding through unimaginably harsh conditions to complete the Serum Run. It later became the inspiration for the Iditarod Race and later the Iditabike.
On your ride, capture a dog in a photo out in the wild, and post here.

Dog (but not your own)
This dog’s owner seemed to have just given up on getting her dog to play catch-the-snowball. Several young girls (out of the picture to the right) were throwing snowballs towards the dog and yelling “Catch it!” but Fido was totally indifferent.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

1/29/21 – Mercedes Benz (more points for select colors)
On January 29, 1886, Karl Benz is awarded the patent for the first successful gasoline-driven automobile.
On your ride, capture a Mercedes Benz vehicle. Sounds easy, right? Well, if you want a few more points, find a less popular color as listed below:
- 3 points for a yellow vehicle
- 2 points for a red or blue vehicle
- 1 point for all other colors
Since we’re basing extra points on color, make sure it’s easy to discern (i.e.., make sure it’s not too dark).
You can upgrade your answer throughout the day, but if you modify your post after 1/29, it’ll only be worth 1 point. Also, you’ll only get point(s) for a single vehicle even if there is a gaggle of them in the photo.
Happy hunting!

Looked in many of the medical parks in the Tysons area and found numerous black and grey Benz’s, but only colored one I saw was this one parked on the street.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

ParticipantHi all, I’m Karen. I have friends in Babes-on-Bikes who’ve done Freezing Saddles before and encouraged me to sign up. I’ve been riding year round for about 5 years, and hoping that BAFS will motivate me to ride even more Jan-Mar. I’ve been a life-long roadie but getting more into gravel this past year.
