2/23/21 – Mosaic (likeness or word)
I believe this is the first time I’ve actually been able to come up with an item without Googling. I had noticed this at St. Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church in Bethesda the other day as I biked by it. That was fortunate, because there are absolutely no references to it on Google.I managed it with only a sleaze ride. Which is just as well, as I also would have gotten an entry in the London Bridge contest for it if that were still being given this year. As I was turning a corner, I ran into a patch of glare ice and the wheels slid out from under me. I hit my head, both brakes released, and the wire came out of the anchor bolt on one of them. I figured that continuing on to get the photo after that was enough, without trying for more than a sleaze ride.
For anyone interested, there is a more professional photo of this (but sans bicycle) at this link.

Returned from the Manassas LOVE ride and rode to the birdhouse forest before flute tooting. I didn’t even realize I also capturing the mosaic wall in the distance. What a glorious day, think it’s the sun?

My mom lives down on the border, and the culture there cheerfully embraces bright colors as well as thriftiness. In some neighborhoods you can see the progression of one person’t leftovers to another person’s front door to someone else’s roof trim, etc. It’s quiet delightful. I live in Reston which restricts color choices to specific ‘earth tones’ so we will bike this afternoon to a less restrictive area!
Even in the Reston neighborhoods that allow a little color, no purple that I could find. Yellow, red, blue, green doors yes, but no purple. [emoji53]

2/22/21 – Purple House
At the risk of losing a perfectly good pointless point, I’m going to offer the following as creative interpretation that doesn’t require photoshop:
The call was for a purple house. It did not specify that the house must be a house for humans. Thus, I offer this purple tree painted on the side of a parking garage where birds nest in the spaces.
[ATTACH=CONFIG]24353[/ATTACH]
After all, it’s just a point.
Plus, all the photos I took of houses with purple-ish shutters didn’t look purple once I got home. Purple really is in the eye of the beholder when there are HOA restrictions on color!
Brilliant, imho!

2/21/21 – the round Peace symbol or the word “peace” (in any language)
British designer and artist Gerald Holtom introduced the peace symbol to an anti-nuclear pacifist organization on February 21, 1958. It represents the letters “N” and “D” (in semaphore) for “Nuclear Disarmament”.
On your ride, find the peace symbol (not the Mercedes logo!) or the word “peace”, which can be in any language.
Happy hunting!

The NVA Returned Peace Corp Volunteers maintain a section of the Reston pathway system, evidently. No time to explore further afield because my #1 task today was a trip to Woodbridge to get my 2nd Covid vaccinations shot! [emoji16] Longish wait but it’s done!!Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yeah, I was kicking myself for not having the foresight to coordinate with another FS zealot! I messaged you my mobile. Next time!

2/20/21 – Overhead Picture from “Such Great Heights” (+1 point for including biker)
On 2/20/1792 – The Postal Service Act, establishing the United States Post Office Department, is signed by President George Washington. 211 years later, one of my favorite albums – Give Up – was released by the band The Postal Service in 2003. On this album is a song called “Such Great Heights” and it is the theme for the photo hunt for the day.
On your ride, 229 years after the original Postal Service was created, take a creative photo from a high vantage point looking downwards, whether atop a bridge, overlook, or somewhere else that’ll give you a great overhead view. Bonus point if there is a clearly discernible biker in the photo. BTW, no selfies/danger pandas for this hunt.
Happy hunting!

2/20/21 – Overhead Picture from “Such Great Heights”
Capital Bikeshare bikes waiting forlornly for hearty riders willing to brave the frigid north wind [emoji100] Kept circling in the parking garage hoping that someone would take a Capital Bikeshare out for a spin, or another cyclist would ride by, but no such luck.

2/19/21 – Planet(s) – likeness or name of a specific planet or the word “planet”
On February 19, 1473, Nicolaus Copernicus was born. He was a mathematician and astronomer during the Renaissance that proposed the heretical idea that Earth was not the center of the universe, but instead it was the sun.
On your ride, find anything related to one of our 9 planets (yes, I’m including Pluto), whether it be a likeness or the name of the planet. However, if you take a picture of dirt and call it Earth, you’ll get exactly .25 points
Let us know which planet is in your photo.

EDIT at 10:18 AM
Sorry I keep waffling. Pick a specific planet OR use “planet”. It’s all good for 1 point.

Have to zoom in to see, just above the “HT” in the store name. This is the backside of a sculpture of the Disney character “Pluto” in a window display of Disney sculptures at ArtInsights in Reston Town Center. Best I could come up with today!
Here’s what the front of the sculpture looks like – image from the ArtInsights website.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

So…. if anyone’s following the Facebook thread on this, you’ll know that I found something earlier, but just haven’t posted yet. I found the same electric car with a bike rack that Rumi found.. but I’m willing to take one fewer point, because this Metro bus is a hybrid (that green insignia on the side)… and it has a bike rack on it. Lol.
Besides, I told the bus driver right after I took his picture about the scavenger hunt and got to bring some random joy to his life, too. Haha.

1/17/21 – Bird House or Bird Bath
I can’t tell if it’s just in the UK, but February 14-21 is National Nest Box Week, but I’ve also seen it listed as Homes for Birds Week. Fun fact: George Lucas’ (creator of Star Wars) wife commissioned a bird house, which was a 7′ wide reproduction of their Skywalker Ranch residence.
On your ride, find a bird house, bird feeder or a bird bath, snap a pic, and post it here for 1 point. If you capture a live bird on any of those three things, that’ll be 2 points total.
Happy hunting!

2/17/21 – Bird House or Bird Bath
(Assume that the date of 1/17/21 is an error?)
Passed many bird houses and baths on my meander through Reston neighborhoods today, but no birds using them. Of the many that I saw this was the nicest, and right around the corner from my house! Never noticed it before. [emoji849]
