Thanks for posting pictures. It’s been a while since I went through the intersection. Looks like it’s going to be a nice pit stop place on the trail.

Yeah, from the increasing social media cz frenzy I would have expected a significant increase.

The route probably should be adjusted to stay further from the road. A car honked/started braking [on their exit ramp] when I hit that section. I guess they thought I was going to ride into the road.

I think it is a little funny how contrived CX is. I shall start a cycling genre that entails riding predominantly on wood chips; I will call it WC. It will require a new bike, of course. People everywhere will be hitting up the local playgrounds and office landscaping for their before- or after-work WC practice.

I’m selling some sweet Lumberjack Brand Splinterless tubes. All the WC pros are using them.

Milling & Paving on South Courthouse Road starts this Friday or Saturday. When paving & striping are complete it will have bike lanes from Columbia Pike to 6th St S and sharrows going up the hill.

This is darn good news. That stretch of pavement was becoming a death trap.

From a recent Arlington County email bulletin:

Upcoming Paving on Columbia Pike, Four Mile Run

Crews will begin mobilizing in the next two weeks for milling and paving operations in the following areas:

Columbia Pike between Washington Boulevard and South Walter Reed Drive – Work will primarily be performed at night, between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m., to minimize traffic disruption.

Four Mile Run between South George Mason Drive and Columbia Pike – Work will take place during the day and is dependent on weather.

These sections were chosen to be repaired as part of this year’s County Paving Schedule.

So happy to see the paving on Columbia Pike which is part of my daily commute. It’s in pretty bad shape especially along the shoulder in the ride hand lanes which sometimes makes negotiating traffic a little tough.

From the looks of Strava, you made it. How was the route/ride?

Something about this project doesn’t make sense to me. Except for the alignment of the curvy part it doesn’t seem like the other changes are really all that needed. What I would like to see is resurfacing of really bumpy as you’re heading north from Gravely point just before you reach the bridge. There’s also some incredibly bumpy patches between the Memorial and Key Bridge that shake my brain against my skull pretty good no matter how slow I go.

Where did all the people go?
Normally I am about 150-170 on the monolith in the morning. Today number 25! Only about a dozen pedestrians and about that many cyclists – mostly by Gravelly Point (few (two? three?) on Custis).
It really wasn’t raining any harder than the past two mornings.

I didn’t bike commute today based on the forecast of 20 mph winds during the evening commuting hours. The winds didn’t materialize. I’m bummed since today’s drizzle is far less than the other two days I biked in the rain this week.

I can attest that the 40 miler on Saturday was a cluster. Before the event it was advertised as either a 32 or 34 mile event. Lots of confusion on the route and missed turns. On the plus side, I was going 41 miles per hour on one of the downhills which was pretty thrilling.

In two hours we saw over 600 cyclists using the 14th Street Bridge bike lane. Way cool!

One of them was me. Thanks for volunteering. It’s good to be counted.

Recruiting effort successful. I just joined the team and my points for the summer bumped us into the top spot.
