ParticipantI bought a Showers Pass softshell at Performance Cycles in Bailey’s Crossroads. They had a decent selection IMO, much better than REI, at least. I bought this one: https://www.showerspass.com/products/skyline-softshell
It’s 180 bucks at Performance. Looks like it’s currently on sale if you buy direct from the web. It’s really thin, but I’ve been comfy with a long sleeve thermal and this jacket down to 17 degrees. It “breathes” pretty well to if the amount of moisture on my cell phone in the back pocket is any indication. It’s a racing cut, so I had to go up a size. Nice zipper side vents and a vent at the neck if you start sweating too much. I’ve worn it in the rain several times and it works great for keeping the rain out. I’ve got short arms for my height and the sleeves are slightly long. The only thing that I don’t like about it are that the back pockets are a little bit too high for me to comfortably dig into while I’m wearing it. This may be the short arm problem plus a lack of flexibility though.

ParticipantTeam 13 – we had a pretty good week. We are just a paltry 300 points out of 4th place. We are also currently in the lead for most Hains Point laps with a slim margin of 2 laps over Team 3.
I will be trying to crank out some additional HP laps this week to keep us in the lead. I’m also tentatively planning on doing some laps on Saturday at 10 if anyone would like to join for some team riding.
I have also made a proposal to Team 3 (our Hains Point rivals) for us to join their regular Thursday night happy hour. Who’s in?

ParticipantTeam 3 – You are proving quite worthy adversaries of Team 13 for the title of 2016 Hains Point champions. In an effort to keep our friends close and our enemies closer, I am proposing a joint Team 3 and Team 13 happy hour on Thursday. I can guarantee at least my attendance.

ParticipantThanks Team 12 for hosting. It was great meeting everyone!

ParticipantI will be representing Team 13, mostly because snugglefestival is buying me beer.

ParticipantThere was a moment where I thought I was going to need a foot down on the Key Bridge.

Rode from Crystal City to DC this afternoon through the LBJ grove and over the wooden bridge. The bridge was quite frozen over in the morning but coming through this afternoon, there is a small clearing on the north side of the bridge. Almost rideable. But from the bridge to the LBJ parking lot is still a mess. See photos.

Sad story… the tire tracks on the left in the first picture are mine from the time I over optimistically dragged my bike through LBJ both before and after I over optimistically dragged my bike over a portion of the Mt. Vernon trail.

ParticipantExcept for this weekend, I’m generally able to ride any time on the weekends.

I had my first week commuting on the CrossRip. I’m happy with the bike (not so much with my experience at Revolution Cycles though). It’s a lot smoother than my entry level road bike and only a little bit slower despite the extra weight of the rack and panniers. I like the suicide brakes although they eat up a lot of the handlebar space for my accessories.

ParticipantI’m kind of digging “Orgies and Drunkenness” as a team name.
I’m all signed up on all the electronic spots. It was good meeting everyone at Happy Hour last night.
Judd
ParticipantI’ll be there.

ParticipantA brand new Trek CrossRip, although it was brought by Judd Claus.

ParticipantFrom the article:
“These potholes in the Metro data aren’t likely to be patched over soon, but Strava’s work with bike advocacy groups is promising. The company has been reaching out to local groups and offering them an exchange: Get your community to use the app to track individual bike commutes. In exchange, you can have access to local data for lobbying city planners or planning advocacy efforts.”I track all of my rides on Strava already, but how do we make this happen for Bike Arlington?
