ParticipantI was a car commuter in 2004 and distinctly remember one flying in the side window of my truck and hitting the back window right behind my head at 70MPH on 66. That was fun. I remember not being thrilled with the noise and the bugs everywhere but I really don’t remember it as the apocalypse that so many others seem to.

ParticipantCongratulations to 2021 top Pointless Kid MBear! My younger daughter, who finished second, was constantly checking the leaderboard. “Did MBear ride today?” If she did, mine wanted to go out for a ride, too.

ParticipantAs I’ve said before, I didn’t know Chris well, but he was the sort of person who immediately felt like a friend. I miss him and his contribution to BAFS and the DMV cycling community. He always wanted to award prized to people who probably weren’t expecting prizes, so I think I will retire this one for next year and think of something else that I think Chris would have appreciated.

ParticipantSo it turns out I’m a terrible prize-giver, but we do have some winners!
2020: tomacsh – I would have done something last year but then COVID and no happy hour and everything went by the wayside.
2021: obscurerichard – I may have to retire this prize and do something else to honor Chris’ memory – no one will ever manage less daily variance than you did this year.
I’ll DM both of you – I plan to bake something as the prize, so I’ll need to know if there are any dietary restrictions i need to take into account.

Now that the competition is over, may I leave this club?
No, your points will be retroactively deleted if you EVER leave the club. You also have to like at least one ride per day from compulsive club-joiners.

ParticipantI knew I was in trouble as soon as I started that last lap – the front tire just didn’t sound right. After the giant piece of glass I took out of it this morning, I thought I’d be good. I made it from the tailgate spot all the way to the second stop sign before I couldn’t ride it any more. Not the way I expected to go out, but BAFS is a cruel mistress. Thanks to HF for the ride home – otherwise I’d still be walking.

ParticipantI just did a flight at Meadworks the other day (thanks, Rumi!) and it’s mostly honey and flowers and stuff. And some habaneros.

ParticipantWeather forecast for Friday evening is low 40s with rain and gusts of wind to 40MPH. Sounds like PRIME BAFS weather. Get ready to PR one half of Hains Point.

What if the gates are closed? Will this still happen? I was there one night last week and the gate was closed at night so I didn’t do a lap.
If the gates are closed, we’ll improvise.

ParticipantFor those not familiar, not to toot my own horn, but this is the origin. It is one of the best days of the year.

ParticipantThere is plenty of room at Hains Point for distancing – I do not expect to be vaccinated by then but I am strongly opposed to organizing super-spreader events

ParticipantI will be awarding a prize for the Least Daily Variance. In addition, I will be awarding a prize to last year’s winner, tomacsh

ParticipantWife and I just did loops on the quiet little road where we’re staying. This stretch was mostly flat and not too slushy. A bunch of roads nearby are cleared but they don’t seem that bike friendly.
