I didn’t go to the screening in Ballston but I did watch it in DC. A fun movie and a bigger turnout than I was expecting which is great!

I have a co-worker who talks a big game–owns a $4000 bike with $1500 wheels and never shuts up about weight-weenie shit–but from what I can tell he can’t ride more than like 30 miles at a stretch.

I must admit, while I was passed by enough people, I did find a certain sense of accomplishment when I passed someone with the really high end bike with wheels that cost more than my bike. But, I wasn’t riding against their time, I got my 9 laps in and that is all I was looking for.

I probably brushed past you at some point while you were filming the Sunday races. We were sitting on the grassy berm just behind you.

If you saw a guy walking around in a RUSH concert t-shirt then you saw me. It was an all Rush day as I wore my ‘Fly By Night’ jersey for the challenge ride and then switched to the concert tee.

JQCyclist got the best shot of my calves in action that I think I’ll ever see in this lifetime!

Isn’t it all about the calves and the strava trophies? haha

All vanity aside, it was a great video. If I was someone who was on the fence about riding into work, I think watching it would push me into the “Go” column.

Thanks man! I try to make it all look fun and exciting. I always want the viewer of my photos to feel like they are part of the action. And for this video I was hoping that would encourage more people to take the plunge and ride in on their bikes.

    Great meeting Andrea and JQC!!

Wonderful meeting you two as well. This helped pull me out of my shell if only a tiny bit – but every bit counts and it is a start.

    It was a beautiful ride.

I, of course, made a video during the ride:

I will be checking out the Clarendon Cup today. I will be the tall-ish goofy guy with a camera and a brown shoulder bag and grey hat with a bike embroidered on it taking pictures and video of the event. If you see me stop me and say HI!

I will also be riding in the Challenge on Sunday.

I wimped out due to the rain, yucky weather plus I was experiencing severe sleep debt. Hangs head in shame.

How was the ride? Well supported? Good cookies?

The rain cooperated for the most part. It got a little drippy and what little there was didn’t last.

    The cookies were great!

Here, this is my video on the ride

I am hoping to do this ride for the first time. The proceeds go to a great charity. And yes, there will be plenty of homemade cookies! I’ve added this event to the forum calendar.

So did you end up doing this ride? Inquiring minds want to know. Well, ok, I’m curious because I did the ride.

P.P.S. I had no idea the 2 people at 5:26 in the video were smiling and waving at the camera until I reviewed the footage. I was very amused by it, so I decided to add that line that they were on point.

I love finding those nuggets when reviewing footage – it happens all the time at my regular job.

There are also usually baked goods if that will entice you.

Baked goods entice me far too easily, hence the reason i need to get on my bike more often.

Welcome to the forums and the cycling community. In addition to the excellent advice for making biking friends (who you can hit up for donations) I’d also suggest using Strava and joining some of the groups. I’ve made a few friends through Strava and turned some acquaintances into very strong friends. I’d recommend Bike Arlington strava group for starters.

I’d also mention that there’s a google calendar of cycling events, but I don’t want to steal Steve O’s thunder. I’ve found that showing up to stuff has been great for expanding my social network. Offering open invite rides has been even better.

Been using starve for a bit now – Joshua Hoover – and just now joined the Bike Arlington group, thanks for the suggestion.

Yeah a new group to hit up for donations for rides (like the MS one coming up haha) is always helpful, although I probably shouldn’t typed that, oh well.

I don’t drink coffee, which means I’m not really a cyclist I think, so cafe stops haven’t been my thing but I think I might pop in to some just to meet and greet people.

I’m going to have to learn how to use my GoPro now that there’s two people around that are good at making videos. #PeerPressure

Andrea was wonderful and took the time to introduce me to a bunch of people. She is great.

Yes, give in to peer pressure. Come on, all the cool kids are doing it.

I’m glad you had a great BT_D (I tease because I get on everyone’s case about actually biking to work on BTWD).

Fair enough lol, it is a deserved ‘getting on my case’ I was actually heading out of town to shoot a friend’s wedding that day so I snuck in that ride before leaving.

We didn’t stop at the Del Ray pit stop but we did ride by and wave at everyone. I honestly don’t remember why we didn’t stop, maybe a time constraint? I think I want to take a page from your book and map out a handful of stop next year and take a leisurely route in to actual work.

Fun video. It was great to see some of the other pit stops in the area. I now see there are other stops that must be on my radar for next year.
