I passed by this storefront looking for hearts today.

The business seems potentially relevant to today.

I didn’t lock up here, so I don’t know how practical they are, but these bike racks are cute.

This is an unknown category, but I’m submitting at AlanA’s recommendation. It has lots of lights of different colors (yellow, red, blue), and both rows of little lights and more ambient lighting as well.

This truck tried to take a turn it wasn’t really capable of, and seems to have gotten stuck. There were a lot of cars backed up behind it, and people going down one way streets the wrong way to get out. It’s nicely lit up though, and it has really aggressive, sharp lines. It’s definitely a sharp-looking vehicle.

    2/13/21 – Diner
On your ride, find a diner – preferably one you like – take a snapshot of it and post it here in the forum. For an extra bonus point, have both the word “Diner” and at least part of your bike in it.

Here’s the Broad Street Diner, which is open 24/7. The bike that happens to be in the shot is also my bike, just in case you were wondering. I’ve never eaten here, maybe never will.

I figured I’d patronize the Tasty instead (see photos on Strava) and get my quax in, but unfortunately they don’t seem to have the word diner anywhere on their storefront. If you’re in the DC area, I heartily recommend Fare Well.

I dunno, native American persuasion sounds more like a bison. I think buffalo are more Old World

Yes, I’d love to hear his “final answer” on it. For people new to this, the precedents aren’t always clear. And since the text I quoted that is from the freezingsaddles.org pointless prizes tab was written by *someone* the question is in the air. :-) In the meantime, I’ll go change my hashtags.

It’s probably too late now, and I could be wrong, but I thought that secstate implied that they would change the leaderboard code to count rides with either the old or new hashtag, so you changing hashtags would be unnecessary work on your end. The only reason to change them would’ve been if rides were tagged according to the wrong ruleset/criteria.

I’m not sure why I felt like I should be in this photo, but the heart wants what it wants. Found a rock, moved it, spent too long aiming/balancing my phone, triggered the timer, and hustled up the icy/snowy steps to the bull.

This whole statue/monument is in the Eakins Oval in front of the Art Museum.

But the two hashtags have different rules – that’s what I’m trying to figure out. Do I count every time I stop at my favorite (which might be a chain) or do I count only those individual non-starbucks, etc. rides per coffee snob? One is obviously much easier to attain, if not as fun.

Considering that chuxtr has been the sponsor for these coffee-related prizes the past couple years, I think it’s a fair assumption that the rules described in this thread are the relevant rules for this year’s prize, and not last year’s rules (i.e. no swamp coffee this year). I’m pretty confident that the prohibition on repeats (of a chain or not), has been prohibited for a while. I’m sure he’ll step in to confirm, though.

    2/11/21 – Movie Poster

Here’s a film (and “quizzo”?) poster from a local theater. I hate to admit it, but I’ve never actually seen Wayne’s World, so I should probably get on that. Like cvcalhoun said, it’s a bit of an abandoned vibe. There’s no year on that date, but Thursday March 5th looks to be from 2020.

The only bike-centric movie that I’ve seen is Premium Rush, and I wasn’t into bikes at the time — I just was on a nearly empty Greyhound bus in South Africa and that’s what was showing. Little did I know it’d inspire my core ethos:

2/10/21 – 5 or 6 point Star (but not on American flag)

I have to confess, this is the first time in a long time (maybe in the history of this challenge) that I haven’t had a location/shot in mind before leaving the house. I figured stars are everywhere, and I did see several. Here’s a (the?) Magen David (thanks cvcalhoun, learned a new term today!) on the facade of the Penn Museum.

It should be obvious, but it’s over the doorway arch. The older museum building has quite the contrast with the newer HUP building looming behind it.

2/9/21 – Pizza! (but not Pizza Hut or Domino’s)

Here’s me and a pizza, the Haymaker (inside the box), from 20th St. Pizza!

I’d never actually been here before, so I can’t really call it a favorite, but it was really tasty! It had some BIG bubbles in the crust. Technically, this mural is on the side of the building (not the storefront), but I’d argue the painted slice in the background should count as “a slice”, or alternatively the pie in the box should count. If you want to see the pizza itself, here it is.

I’d like to communicate my disappointment in the rest of you all for not actually getting pizzas, and just taking photos of buildings. That’s no fun. Also, I bought a pizza rack a couple weeks ago, but I can’t fit it and my front brake on at the same time (and I don’t have a long enough bolt that’s not part of the front brake), so I was reduced to riding home with one hand while carrying the pizza in the other (but with a safety escort/photographer/pizza-eater). One day I’ll get it properly rigged up and I’ll be able to carry pizza in style.

If I have enough time today, I might upgrade this — the Shofuso Japanese House and Garden in Fairmount Park is pretty (at least from the outside).

Wormhole from Wisconsin to Mass. I had spotted this while running but was deterred by the no biking sign. Josh’s post suggested that it is a merely a suggestion so I went back to try it.

I think the western part that I’ve been on is slightly different (goes a little further north), and doesn’t have stairs (but instead roots) to worry about. It also avoids the signed parts of the path, and I don’t think you see any “no bikes” signs if you go that way.

Temple University has (at least) two different owl statues on their campus — no surprise, considering that the owl is their symbol.

I’m a sucker for realism, so I chose this one. The other one’s viewable on my Strava.
