Yes it is.

My question for komorebi: when you say 2.5 flights of stairs – are these all in a row, or is it slightly broken up? (Trying to figure out how feasible this would be if I have M with me, and for the life of me I can’t picture where the stairs are on this route.)

Pretty sure it’s around mile 1.8, heading up the stairs from Lee Highway to N Scott St. Here’s some people headed down those stairs during komorebi’s Arlington bike lane ride. Your option to avoid the stairs would be continuing along Lee Highway, climbing N Quinn, making a right on N Scott, and then regrouping.

    Hi all,

I’m interested in the duck ride. :) One question – coming from DC, I’d take the Key Bridge to the Custis Trail, but then what is best way to get to the Lyon Village Starbucks?

Isn’t that the one right off the Custis? I.e you’d take the Custis to a bit before the corkscrew part, then hop into the parking lot and you’re there?

I played around with it enough to figure out the problem is related to the cadence/speed sensor. When I delete that sensor, it seems to record properly. I’ve always used it for cadence only and never installed the speed magnet, because I used GPS for speed and distance. This was never problem for my Garmin Edge units (500 and 800). It appears that Wahoo’s algorithm overrides GPS speed and distance with the speed sensor data. This makes zero sense to me since it ls has an inside/outside setting that disables the GPS function for use indoors. I’m waiting on Wahoo to reply, but it looks like my options are to install the speed sensor magnet or stop using the cadence sensor. Neither of these is rational t me. I bought a GPS unit to use GPS functions nd data, not to have it overridden by other data .

I’ve been too lazy to move my speed sensor from my lone cross wheelset to my other wheelset on my cross bike since the season ended, and I have a cadence sensor mounted on the crank. I haven’t had any of these issues (viewing rides on the Bolt itself, the Wahoo app, or whatever gets uploaded to Strava), so I wonder what the difference is. This is the Elemnt Bolt with the Wahoo sensor pack (cadence, speed, heart rate).

Even in rush hour? Trying to find the best route to work tomorrow (DC) from the Tues Hills Ride. I should just suck it up and take Yorktown to Military.

I’m doing a reverse commute, and the time of day when I’m riding it varies day-to-day. In general though, it seems fairly empty in the morning, and more traffic in the evening. See you tomorrow at the shop!

Do drivers ever get frustrated where there’s no bike lane and you take the lane?

I probably should have included the caveat that I tend to try and ride faster with automobile traffic anyways, and I’m usually hammering on this part on the way home anyways, so in my experience no. I believe the longest stretch eastbound without a bike lane is from Quintana to 18th St, and that’s mostly a long downhill to the Ohio St traffic light. IME you’re either going not much slower than car speed, or you’re getting held back (like everyone else) by the cars backed up at the light. If the light’s green then you can focus on maintaining speed up the little hill past the light so you can get back to where the bike lane starts again.

I am curious about the official bicycle route signage where the bike lane disappears, but I’ve never checked it out (I’m assuming it just detours through the little roads south of Washington Blvd and spits you out in Westover).

Washington Blvd is definitely the way to go, detour or no detour. Rolling hills so it’s not that bad to keep your speed up, and the sections without bikelanes are generally the downhills. It is a pain how you have to bounce back and forth when you lose the bike lane, but merging back into traffic has never been problematic for me.

This was the only stop I made during smb9600’s Falls Church brewery tour. In addition to some desperately required food, I got the farmhouse saison. It tasted like beer.

I went down to Port City last Friday to meet with bmif and some of his Team X compatriots (along with some others). I only needed to check my phone for directions once on the way there, so it was quite successful. I had the Porter (not pictured), Long Black Veil, and Optimal Wit. I’ve had the Porter and Optimal Wit elsewhere many a time, but not the Long Black Veil, a black IPA. They were all enjoyable, all tasted like various types of beer, and I managed to delegate (the hiding of two) Calvinballs to two innocent bystanders.

    Sszibler’s lost Calvinball:
Presumably somewhere near the Friendship Heights Whole Foods, next to Friendship Heights Park. W sign shown on Street View here. I don’t know the area well enough for the last three photos to help without being there in person, but if that aids anyone else, please go retrieve it.

I’m putting out a 3x points bounty on this.

    One Calvinball has been hidden:

You received a “Telegraph” of the Calvinball’s location at the Entrance to Hell in Alexandria.

I rode over to Lost Dog yesterday after work and walked some dogs.

Hannah was really cute and friendly. I guess they need to start the scrubs off with tiny dogs.

Chico liked to sniff cars, of all different types (didn’t know they smelled that interesting).

Dagny was great, so I just chilled with him in his room after his walk. Word of advice — even if you’re fine on the bike, you’ll get cold walking around in your bike gear.

I got out too late to make it to Thanh Son for tofu, but I left a pair of shoes there at rcannon100’s suggestion so that means I have to go back.

Ok I wanted to get in on the action. Figured I’d stop by Detour and see if the Calvinball (Friendshipball? Need to track the finds again) was still there, because I need more coffee rides. It’s right next door to the notorious Darna Lounge. No one claimed it yesterday, so I enjoyed my espresso courtesy of SteveO/MrHappy.

I spent some time trying to get the Calvinball #dangerpanda down (dropping the Calvinball at least once) with no success, and my hands were getting cold so I gave up. This is the best you’ll get.

I believe I qualify for double points as a first-time finder.

Proposed ordinance: If you hide the Calvinball at a brewery, then you receive 2 bonus points.

I have a Cygolite HotRod front light (I think that’s what it’s called) and water got in probably 6 months ago, and there was visible moisture. That dried out, but it still doesn’t reliably function, so don’t get your hopes up.

This happened, weeks after I claimed it would. There’s now a spreadsheet with scores and miscellaneous info and reasoning, and the OP has been updated with ordinances.

I believe there are currently 2 Calvinballs out in the wild (sszibler’s friendshipball and WB1), and LhasaCM’s Hobbesball (if you’re not going to hide it I’ll award you and M some points as is, I’m not opposed to taking one out-of-commission).
