ParticipantDidn’t realize this until now, but the contest rules seem to be missing an important word:
7. The tiebreaker will be whoever has the coffee shops per coffee ride miles ridden.
Fingers crossed for “least”, because we all know riding a ton of miles is a Good Thing.

Wouldn’t it only need to be 94 miles Monday, then 6 days of 1 mile sleazes, in your example, to reach max points in a week by “front loading”? But why would anything other than that suck? If Monday was a beautiful nearly spring-like day, easy to ride for hours, but the rest was winter crud, it would seem to miss the spirit of FS to sleaze off the worst/wintery 6 consecutive days…?
Yeah, you’re right. I just don’t really see the point of this series of leaderboards/metrics/whatever. I’m just not a fan of the cap, at least where it is (obviously it should be capped at my average weekly mileage or something like that if we’re going to have it).

ParticipantI think you should only get points for riding 100+ miles on Monday, and then sleazing the rest of the week. Anything else sucks

Well, Geraf Phee has had enough time lounging around a coffee/ice cream shop. Time to put him back to work.
Westover’s just a scary scary place. Only the most intrepid of cyclists dare to venture there.

Just curious- what responsibilities would you have had in case something happened? I know they didn’t put you out there to cruise…
So at the briefing this morning, it sounded like orange safety cones would be thrown out of the lead car, and we’d put them on top of (or in?) large potholes. This never ended up happening. Riding along Fort Davis Dr in Fort Dupont Park was basically riding one giant pothole though. Really the only section where we did anything (at least the two other cyclists I was with in front) was along East Capitol EOTR, where there were multiple lanes of runners going in different directions (a 5k and the full marathon I believe). Here we moved in front of the lead car to try and part the waters of oncoming runners so we could proceed.

ParticipantOk, that was pretty fun. Rolled out there and followed the lead car, in front of the lead runners, and had pretty minimal responsibilities. Came in at about 2:08, so a pretty respectable time had I been on foot. Weather was perfect. I’m going to try and do it again next year.

ParticipantHad no idea this was a possible opportunity, thanks David! Registered, let’s just see if I get the confirmation and whatever details in time.

Huh? PBLs are not MUPs – they are restricted to wheeled transportation (scooters etc welcome).
In defense of Dismal, he asked for examples of PBLs on streets lined with single family homes, and the examples mentioned (W&OD along Virginia Ln, path along MacArthur Blvd) are multi-use paths, not protected bike lanes, and I don’t think he ever claimed that.

Pretty convenient for debugging/troubleshooting purposes.

I swung by Caboose on the way home from work last Thursday (for coffee) and ended up getting their Vanilla Bean Hobo Stout as well. It didn’t taste like 8% ABV, and the vanilla wasn’t subtle (in a good way). I know I was talking to someone recently about putting a vanilla bean in a bottle of bourbon for flavoring, and now I really want to do that.

ParticipantAre garage races #NOBAFS this year? Does it depend on the garage and how exposed to the elements it is?
