PLEASE take these things! I really need to get them out of the way.
If they’re still up for grabs (thought Sarah Bee was going to take them), I’ll snag the Ortlieb and Chrome bags.

Participantcamiller, what’s the verdict on named subparks?

e.g. Robert Emmet Park, which apparently is part of Rock Creek Park (but disconnected from the main part of it).josh
ParticipantI’ve been here for banh mi before and they’re very accommodating to vegans. It’s tiny, but a friend was in the area and suggested going, so of course I said yes. It was pretty good and I liked the almond boba tea. TBH I’d still probably go for Sprig and Sprout.

ParticipantI had this pho at Rice Paddies in Silver Spring for lunch during drevil’s D.C. L.a.G.R. ride a couple weeks back. The broth wasn’t as flavorful as I would’ve liked, and I preferred the flaming beef seitan that I tried as well. Still, it was nice having a lot of options there, and the ride was certainly worth it.

FYI Taqueria Habanero reopened last night for anyone who hasn’t been there yet!
Question about the bonus points: Do you mean add #TacoHunt, or just the words TacoHunt? And are they separate from from the regular hashtag or a part of it? I just tried a combination but the extra points aren’t showing on the board. Thanks!
Add
#FS2020tacoloco TacoHunt
to your next three non-taco rides, that way they’ll be counted on the leaderboard as 3 extra points. It’s just a simple way to have your score (with bounty) reflected on the scoreboard.

Me: having dropped my kid off at school, excitedly turning into the nb Veitch protected bike lane, which is the first of a bunch of dedicated bike infra on my ride. Yay, safety
You: salmoning sb in the nb Veitch PBL, hugged against the cars so I couldn’t see you until…
Me: &#*@(&$@)!!!!!!
Do better, You, do better. You can ride on the sidewalk if you need to head sb on that side of the street.
Yes, I hate it when people salmon in protected bike lanes. At least if they’re salmoning in the regular bike lane, you can try and make them play chicken with the cars instead of yourself. Yet another reason to just take the lane. Less stuff to dodge.

ParticipantPark question: Lyon Park Play Park (the park within the neighborhood Lyon Park in Arlington) is not owned by Arlington County.
The Lyon Park Community Center and park are privately owned by the residents of the Lyon Park neighborhood. They are not Arlington County property.

It’s publicly accessible during daylight hours, so it’s good to go, right?camiller, thanks for sponsoring this prize! It’s been a good incentive to take some little detours and explore a bit. And, it’s way cheaper than coffee is!

If the park sign labels it as a “Playground” instead of a “Park” will that count?
Boomer, you’re killing us with your photo file sizes, takes forever to load.
I think there are different standards floating around, but this is what I’ve been going by:
* it needs to be labeled as a park, but a specific type of park is OK as long as the name ends in “Park”
– this means no “x Recreation Areas”, “x Community Centers”, no “x Playground” even if the sign also says “x Department of Parks and Recreation”
– something like “Johnson Playground Park” would be OK
* it doesn’t matter what Google maps or the Parks and Rec website says, if you can’t find the sign it’s no good
– if there’s a sign that shows “Park Rules” or similar, but doesn’t actually have “x Park” on it, it’s no goodAlso, I agree with the desire to only see interesting park stuff here. There’s enough parks in the area that we don’t need to see them all here.

You miss the point of my message. I did not advocate for lesser safety standards when it comes to bicycle facilities. I advocated for factual statements when a bicyclist crashes.
I mean, if there was no bollard there, i.e. it wasn’t placed there by someone because they don’t grow out of the ground without human placement, the person couldn’t have hit a bollard (at that location at least), and so presumably wouldn’t have died. I don’t think it’s that much of a stretch to make this claim. It’s not the case that the bollard placement causes all those that ride through the area to die, or that the rider couldn’t have died crashing in some other way, but I don’t think that’s what Steve O is claiming. I believe his claim is that “if this bollard had not been where it was, this rider would not have died during this ride”.

Dumb question that i’m pretty sure i should know the answer to, but is it safe to assume that if we were on the wait list and are not now, we are on a team? how do we know which team we are assigned to?
I poked around a bunch of the threads but I think I’m missing it. Thanks for any advice!
