Darn, I could have caught up on some sleep if I had taken the red line today.

Another warm-up hill people may want to try is Forsythe Ave between Bethesda and Silver Spring. If you’re riding up Jones Mill Road, it’s the last right turn before you go under the beltway. It’s not long, but it’s steep and the worst part is near the top.

Um, I did this on the way home. I sure wish I had remembered your post about the top being the worst. Thought I was doing fine until then.

Perhaps if I’d caressed my spokes this morning I would have identified the offender before it popped its nut.

Whoa! This is a family forum or I need to get my mind out of the gutter.

Something about spokes and how it they support weight has me thinking a missing spoke will eventually cause more harm in the future. That said I think I heard a loose spoke on my ride in this morning.

If you see someone on the side of the road/trail twanging and squeezing all the spokes on his rear wheel, please say hi.

I’m 99.9% sure if I had some food to feed this little guy, he would’ve come up to me and taken it. It was VERY curious about me and didn’t seem to be threatened much at all. After a couple of cars rolled by, I realized how dangerous it was for them to get any level of comfort so close to the road, and shooed him off.

Did you show it a picture of your avatar to scare it away?

My brother is also interested in a bakfiets-style bike, so we stopped by The Daily Rider last month and gave the bullitt a test run. It didn’t quite feel right for him, but we’re tall guys so that wasn’t a surprise. The owner (who commutes on a bullitt) was there and gave us lots of advice about other brands as well. The rest of the shop is cool too – definitely worth a visit!

Did the Bullitt feel fast? The last review I read of it said it was a good climber and fast. But the bucket wasn’t really good at holding two kids side by side. Also, they dumped it quite a few times before getting really comfortable with it. Still wanna try one, thanks for letting us that the Daily Rider has em.

I just found this thread looking for kid-carrying cargo bikes in MD. I’m trying to decide what would work the best for me – twin 3.5 yr olds and a 5 yr (who doesn’t necessarily need to fit on the bike). I would like to take the twins to preschool twice a week, 6 miles each way. There is one huge hill but I’m trying to find a way around that. I was thinking about a Madsen Cycle or an Xtracycle with seats or a Kona Ute with seats. Any advice?

Also, I’d love to see the family bikes at the Arlington Fun Ride. When and where is it?

Might want to add the Yuba Mundo to the list. I really need to go try a cargo bike. Took my daughter to preschool on Friday and Monday in a trailer (5 mosquito bites while setting the trailer up). It was a short two miles on smaller roads, but quite a few hills and a couple of big roads to cross. She loved it though.

Anyone have any experience with The Green Commuter shop in Takoma Park?

I wonder if REI is trolling this board. Not cycling specific, but a really great price for a Smartwool sweater

I noticed some 100% merino sweaters at Costco the other week for $20. Just normal everyday wear, but could definitely double as bikewear.

I tried a snowboarding helmet two Winters ago. I overheated after 20 minutes in 30 degree weather. I’ve been fine with a wool buff folded over to protect my lower face.

Just finished It’s All About the Bike by Robert Penn. A good story with a fair amount of bicycling history.

So, Jopamora I owe you two beers. I’ll do another scavenger hunt sometime soon, maybe with a bigger prize and a more obscure hint (that “vienna” one did kind of narrow it down too much).

It’s cool. I probably won’t be able to make a happy hour get together for quite a while.
