This happens all the time and I expect it. I’ll post some more video tonight, two similar incidents this morning. Be careful out there, this cycle track is not exactly easy to navigate.

Today was a great day to ride an ebike to work! Man that head wind would have been brutal otherwise :-)

As I was (illegally) riding my ebike on the WOD this morning, I thought what if the majority if bikes on the mup were ebikes? Well, we’d be complaining about those dangerous non motorized bikes right?

I can peddle my ebike faster without the motor. I actually do sometimes, to get a good workout. But guess what it’s safer to ride with the motor. Peddling makes me tired, slightly off balance as my legs are pumping, and I’m less prepared to pull my brakes if needed.

Just out of curiosity, I regularly cross paths with a guy on a Giant hybrid with an e-assist rear hub motor, I even helped him get his chain back together after he was hit by a child running across the path at Iwo Jima about a year ago. Maybe 45-50 yrs old, always well-dressed. That isn’t either of you, is it?

No, not me. I only ride my ebike between vienna and DC. 15th and L.

Probably not, though I’ll keep an eye out! I only switched over to an ebike full time after I moved to Capitol Hill and started at a new company that requires suits all summer long. The only other ebikes I regularly see are a family with a Giant TwistDX with a Burley trailer and an older guy commuting on a Pedego.

I put an eZee kit from ebike.ca on my commuter, which is an old mountain bike frame that I rebuilt (larger picture).

Glad to hear you bought from ebikes.ca. I was debating between the ezee kit from th, or the cell man (em3ev.con). I went with cell man because if the larger battery pack. I also bought the cycle analyst, do you have one? It is well worth the money.

Hi 83b, I wonder if I’ve run into you on the trail? I always try to say hi to other ebikers. I have a cell man Mac kit with falconev triangle bag. Do you have a build thread on E-S?

I’ve been a bike commuter into DC for the past 15 years. Never been able to commute every day though, until I started ebike commuting about 2 years ago. This is without a doubt the best and most reliable way for me to get to work and home. For the haters that think ebikes are unsafe : I have not once seen an accident caused by unsafe use of ebikes. Has anyone here witnessed this? I would like to hear about it. I use the wod and custis every day on my ebike. Sometimes I take lee hwy or wash blvd. I do what I feel is safe… I’m not some crazy kid on a motorcycle… Honestly, I’ve never seen any motorcycles on the mup, have seen cars though!!!

Ebikes.ca also has a lot of good info – they have a motor simulator that will tell you the range based on battery and controller.

Also, I’ve given up on having any shop build or modify anything on my ebike. I know it’s probably not what you want to hear dasgeh (I just read the box bike thread) but I do repairs and maintenance myself. I spent a lot of time trying to find a shop to simply build a wheel with a motor, and ended up doing it myself. Ebikes.ca has a spoke calculator and will cut custom size spokes.

There’s just no good place to be and the usual filtering through heavy traffic thing seems much more dangerous than usual.

Totally agree. As I was crossing key bridge this morning and saw traffic backed up on whitehurst, I thought about splitting through, but people are probably pissed off stuck in that traffic. At least I was when I used to drive.
