ParticipantI signed up but I don’t have a team. You can claim me now or claim me later!

ParticipantChanging the mileage scoring would definitely motivate me to participate this year. I did FS for the first time two years ago. I rode at least 1 mile a day for every day of the competition, but I rarely rode more than 50 miles a week. So, it would be great if my modest efforts contributed more to my team. I also like the idea of capping team points. I am agnostic on the idea of local teams. Most of my team was from outside DC (I live right near Union Station), but it was fun to meet new people and I count new friends from the experience. That said, I would probably opt for a local team if that’s an option.

While I have your attention I have one more hidden gem…. the Pavilion cafe in the art park next to the Natural History Museum. The catch? You must walk your bike while within the art park, no biggie.
By the “art park” do you mean the Sculpture Garden at the National Gallery of Art? https://www.nga.gov/visit/sculpture-garden.html
Or is there something similar at the National History museum?

This is probably the shortest ride that I’ve ever led. I’ve giving a short ride with lots of social time a try. Looking forward to seeing you!
Haha! My long ride usually ends at Vigilante in Hyattsville but I sometimes stretch it a bit more. Social time sounds good!

ParticipantI already committed to the Tour de DCPL but if you do another one I will try to make it. The one I joined last year was a ton of fun.

The forecast for tomorrow looks pretty dreadful, but yes, I’m still crazy enough to ride. Bring your rain gear and whatever extra clothes, socks, or gloves you need to be comfortable at the stops. This is a no-hypothermia-allowed event.
This shorter route we’ll be using is at https://ridewithgps.com/routes/29419142.
I’m afraid I’ll have to withdraw from the ride tomorrow. The weather plus some issues at home will keep me away. Those who go, stay warm!

In conjunction with rumipumi (aka Mrs. Maryland Meadworks), I’m organizing a bakeries, brews, and booze ride on Saturday, February 23. All are welcome to join.
The plan:
— Meet at 10:00 a.m. at Velo Cafe in DC, purveyor of local coffee, Acme Pie, and other excellent baked goods.
— Roll out at 10:30 a.m. and take the Anacostia Riverwalk Trail to Shortcake Bakery and Maryland Meadworks.
— Do a loop up through U.Md., along Lake Artemesia, and back down to Hyattsville.
— Visit Sangfroid Distillery (just opened December 2018; $10/person for tour and tasting) and Streetcar 82 Brewery (first deaf-owned brewery on the east coast). Neither place serves food, but Vigilante Coffee and Franklin’s are nearby if people need nibbles.
— Since there’s nothing like pie to soak up that alcohol, roll back along the ART to Dangerously Delicious Pies on H Street.
— Return to Velo Cafe. The route is about 37 miles, mostly trails but also some roads, at https://ridewithgps.com/routes/29290890. Social pace (12-15 mph), no drop. Nondrinkers are welcome too.
Directions to the start: the Velo Cafe at District Hardware is located at 730b Maine Ave SW, in the Wharf. The nearest metro is Waterfront. If you can’t find street parking near the Wharf, it’s pretty easy to park at Hains Point and bike over.
If you’d like to join us along the way, let me know and I’ll see if I can get my Garmin LiveTrack working.
Depending on your stomach/liver capacity, you might be able to score points for four separate pointless prizes: coffee, pastries, beerneuring, and spiriteuring.
If you think you’d like to imbibe, please PM me or respond on this thread so that I can let the good people at Maryland Meadworks, Streetcar 82, and Sangfroid know how many people to expect.
Bring money and a lock. And a metro card if there’s a chance you might want to metro home.
The rain date is the following Saturday, March 2.

ParticipantI have some pretty sturdy velo orange fenders installed on one bike and I’ve been wondering if there’s some after market breakaway connectors I could add.
