ParticipantWhen it comes to gloves, my first caveat is “Your mileage may vary”. My keys are 1. is it waterproof? 2. is it wind resistant? 3. can I get it off easily? and 4. (this is gross, but) does it have something soft so I can wipe my nose off when it runs. This glove meets all those criteria for me. As a bonus, it is also reflective, which for me is very nice, since I commute and sometimes ride in the dark.
Also, if you don’t like it, I’ve found Pactimo to be pretty good about returns.
I grew up in Canada, so I can wear a glove like this below 30F, although I will sometimes use a silk liner at the beginning of a really cold ride and take it off later.
Like I said, your mileage may vary… but you can always return them, too.

ParticipantHi. I’m John.
Sorry I did not make it to HH. One of my colleagues was leaving, and as we’ve worked together closely for a while, I thought it better of me to see her off.
I live in Silver Spring, near Piney Branch and Sligo Creek. I will sign up for the Strava team shortly, and I look forward to meeting you all.

Ah. We all love rent seeking, unless it’s someone seeking to end our rent…

I’m certainly good with April 9th, also.
Metro has already implemented a moderate snow plan for bus service tomorrow. And that is most likely to be a best case scenario.
They’re talking 8-14″ now for parts of MoCo (where I am).
The above post brings up a good point for “that final moment where things can be cancelled”. I know some diehards will still show up, but that’s not really an option for us folks in the burbs.
Ha! Do you know what we’d call a day like tomorrow where I come from???
Wednesday. Eight to 14″ is hardly a snowfall in The Great White North…
Seriously though, I get it. I’m in Silver Spring, and one of the reasons I bike to work is that the Metro is a pathetic means of transportation, under the best of conditions. When the weather is bad (or at least, sort of bad), Metro is horrid.
So I’m easy, either way…

ParticipantI don’t know whether there is a timeframe after which we can’t cancel tomorrow, but I suspect that if the weather truly is THE WORST STORM OF ALL TIME!!!, pretty much everything will be cancelled. That makes the question one of whether the Bier Baron needs to be booked now for April 9th, or weather (pun intentional) it can wait until tomorrow.
Call me crazy, but I’m thinking April 9th is not a high demand day…

Suggestion:
If Bier Baron is open and the weather is really bad, anyone who is badass enough to get there should show up. If there are only 15 of us, we can share stories and some beers and trade Frozemon. I’m sure Bier Baron will be happier with 15 people than zero.
AND we should schedule a second “official” one for the awarding of the prizes. So those who flew in or made schedule changes, etc. can at least make it to one of the final happy hours.
Okay… I’m new to DC, but grew up north of here… where they got a LOT more snow.
Even if the city was closed, the bars were open. But then, that was Canada!

ParticipantI have a Garmin 820, and have had relatively few problems with it. I update the software regularly, and I think that helps. I probably don’t use all the functionality it’s capable of… I don’t really need it. It pairs with my HRM, PM, speed sensor (which you don’t really need, but I think it more reliable than GPS). Nav works well, but shortens the lifespan of the battery charge. So too does putting anything on your main page that causes it to “report” often (for a while, I had a D-Fly function on it, but I got rid of it due to its impact on how long the device stayed charged).
I was an early ELEMENT adopter, but it was not ready for prime time when it was introduced. Navigation was poor. One of my buds has it, and he says it’s much improved, but not as robust as Garmin. I’m waiting for Karoo… should be coming “any time now”. My buddy will be working for them. They have some software issues, but the hw is awesome, and sw is fixable. It is a BIG device. You could watch a football game on it…
