sorry fellas, but those cool Sunuks you wear after a long ride are actually espadrilles. It is better to accept and move on.

I took the plunge a while ago and bought a couple urban bike knickers. I ended up with chrome knickers. I would have to say they are well made, very functional with a light padded liner, but honestly, they are fugly. They are two stitches away from my grandfather’s polyester golf pants made into cutoffs. Honestly, go that route and save yourself a $100. Granted, I am old enough to be wearing my grandfather’s golf pants, and have no business wearing ultra-teenage-hip chrome stuff, but i really thought I would look younger, not older, sheesh!
I still wear the chromes, but more often I have resorted to zoic padded cycling liners with solidly made hiking type knickers (Patagonia, Prana and mnt Hardwear). All the knicker are made of the quick dry material with multiple pockets. Plus I can wear the knickers all day, unlike the Chromes which were only good for Bingo night. With the weather getting warmer (someday) it is better to have multi-function knickers, plus capris are not just for Mary Tyler Moore, we’re all wearing them!

Purely out of curiosity…where does the 17 mile number come from? Strava (and RideWithGPS) shows a full loop as 15.6ish miles, so I’m just curious if the Bluemont is figured in there or something like that.

Strava for the Loop is funky. There appears to be 15 versions of it, and every time I ride it complete, being careful to stay on the yellow brick road, it never shows up as a full segment.

    Great Job!
I will be printing out a bunch for the W-L Bike Club members. It would be nice for the club to ride it again and use the map to entice their parents for a weekend ride.
It is funny how many Arlington bikers that have no idea what you are talking about when you say, “I did the Loop.” I might have to leave the spare at home and stuff a few of these in my saddle bag to reduce the, “Ya know, you hang a left at Weenie Beenie, go past Goodwill, then you’ll see a caboose,,,,,” explanation.

Last year when one of the big races was going on, my daughter pointed at the TV and said “Daddy!”

Now, it wasn’t really that far off of a comparison. It was one of the time trials and they were wearing those silly helmets, and I believe it was Andy Schleck riding at that particular moment.

See when they get older it is not as cute. My twelve year-old did the same thing, but it was Animal Planet: Endangered Hippos.

Looks like fun and a good ride for the kids in the W-L Bike Club.
Without googling, can you name all 8 Arlington Libraries? I only got 5.

That is an awesome picture worthy of a frame.
Btw, something I did with all my munchkins art work was to stick them in various books on the bookshelves. It is such a treat to open up an old book to read and find one of the kid’s pictures on a random page. It will be an even better treat when they inherit the books and their kids find them. Don’t forget to date them!

MWM ISO a sugar daddy who could buy me a Wieler Centro1SR for long rides through majestic mountains.
Names Rick,,,,ok, it’s Jason, but Rick sound so much tougher. I ride a blue and silver trek road, or an all black road, or when I am feeling frisky, I might be riding a white IRO fixie.
My ugly mug picture is being compensated by my cute daughter in the left corner.

Would it be correct to say that the MTB is at a significantly greater disadvantage on uphills (either long steady “easy” uphills like say outbound on the WOD part of the Arlington loop, or more dramatic ups and downs (like east bound on the Custis, or the many ups and downs e.

Yea that mtn bike is heavier, but don’t forget you got a rack of tiny little gears that can crank you up any hill.

There have been a couple of times when I’ve passed cyclists while running up some of the short steep rises of Rock Creek Trail. I’d make an extra effort to say “Passing left” (well, extra sarcastic) to those who neglected to call out their passes earlier.

Hysterical, but I would immediately fake a flat or ruptured spleen.

Never underestimate a old guy with panniers on an Raleigh. On several occasions on the WOD/Loop I have been dropped on my leaf-weight carbon by chaps wearing tweed sports coat on their way to go antiquing at the Eastern Market. I am always humbled by how overdressed I am, and on several occasions I wish for my schwinn varsity to justify my lack of comparative ability.
You need to keep doing what you are doing, and that is riding. Set yourself a goal, whether it is loosing 10 pounds, doing the entire WOD, or riding the loop 10 times in a month. Once you have completed that goal, you will have a good understanding of how you ride and what would make a good bike for you, and you will be ready to reward yourself with a good Craigslist find.
