That’s messed up. Looks like you, not Vicegrip should have “first BA member after Tim” honors. Kudos!
I suspect the top 10’s 7th lap was more of a cool down, I know it was for W-L’s Butler, who rode the last lap with his daughter. If they moved everybody down to just six laps, it might be a scary gap. Those guys had an insane cranking pace line.

ParticipantWe have four W-L teachers doing it. You would think one of us would have come to their senses and said no!

And last year a couple people put together some pretty cool analysis of the rides and laps completed. Who is going to do that again this year?
You guys were cranking. Time for you guys to start Saturday!
One of our W-L teachers, Butler, also did a great job and did the Generals Proud, 10th. We only got one student this year, and she got 6 laps. She did great!!!!!My times got messed up. They missed recording my first lap and had me recorded for 51:44 for the first lap, and only 6 laps total. I’m going with my 3:06 19s for 7, not 6! I’ll figure out where I stand later.

Well, that was fun!
Nice KOM!
You could stop at the table and get results at the end of the ride.Jason B
ParticipantThat was a blast. It was a tad bit more twisty, but overall a good time. Appeared a little short than in the past.
The W-L contingent had about 6 teachers riding today. We had four 7’s and two 6’s. I am little bummed that a few of our times were recorded incorrectly. One of our group was only recorded for two laps and two of us lost a lap. Oh we’ll, that is what Garmin is for.Jason B

They said front, but I was hoping to hang it in the front triangle. May take it unattached and see when I get there
Yea, totally lost on the front ‘billboard. I have my garmin out front and I am not seeing the two making friends. Anybody got a picture of the proper attachment?
ThanksJason B
ParticipantWait a second, where are the potholes, cracks, crushed soda cans, glass, joggers running three aside? Looks very peaceful, but open spaces scare me. I need to fall asleep to police cars and people screaming in multiple languages, very soothing.
Just out curiosity, did you accidentally flip off the polite motorist out of reflex?Jason B
ParticipantHenry,
Way to go! I have Ever as a student and he is one of my favorites.
To add to Phoenix Bikes’ ability to make life-long-bikers, Ever is now on the NCVC Juniors. Being a true Phoenix kid, he is already helping one of his teammates build up a frame. So, not only can he tune a Campy derailuer, and do a mean track stand, he is now going to be a speedster tearing up Powhatan!Jason B

But I just cleaned my chain! 😡
Yea, but you were given twenty different ways to clean it on your, “Is it possible?” thread, so try a new method for Saturday, and different one for Sunday. May I suggest, a light waxing followed by fresh mineral spirits.

Participanttoo bad you’re not on this side, I’d tell you to head over to VeloCity Bike Co-op in Del Rey. They would let you use the tools and walk you through the entire process for a small donation. Heck, they probably have a used spoke for a nickel. Takoma is pretty hippy, isn’t there a similar bike cooperative over there?
Also, when you take off that cassette, zip tie the whole thing. Can’t tell you how many spacers I’ve lost!Jason B

How bad is that hill? Are we talking “out of saddle” all out climb or “just keep your speed up”?
as Tim said, sit and spin, but if you do need to stand, there is a yellow pedestrian sign on the right that would be a good goal to do so. It is where it gets a tad bit steeper and you only have a bit to go. It might not be a Ped. Sign but it is your only sign on the right as you are motoring up.

We did it! Four days, met lots of people, great trip, and I hurt all over. Thanks for all the advice, it is greatly appreciated and helped me get to the finish line.
Very, very impressive. Way to crank!

ParticipantIf I may add, holding the seat and running along side is good, but I found having your hands on either side of their shoulders works really well to get them to learn to balance. I did it with both of my girls and it worked great. The seat method can still end up with some nasty little falls, plus your doing all the balance work, but with you hands on either side of their shoulders saves them every time. You will find that it quickly will improve to little shoulder taps, that really are cues for them to center/balance themselves. Pick a giant unused parking lot. Pull an Einstein and tell them to keep moving for that balance. Don’t forget to teach them how to start and stop by themselves.Wear good sneaks and bring a Gatorade, because if you are doing it right, you will be sweating like a pig.
Good luck and take pictures. One of the best pictures I have is teaching my kid how to ride a bike.Jason B

Not sure the target audience is on the trails at 3:45 pm. Or even 7-something.
Just sayin’.Kids leaving school. There is the little guy school right there and a number of w-l kids take the cutis home. I know that is not a high crime time, but a very common time for little ones to be on the trail.
