For those who want a glimpse of what we do, our own Ever Franco was featured this morning on WAMU. The piece will play again at 9:30 if you’re listening at the office.

Phoenix is a great community asset and it is up to us to help keep it going. We can do that with our bikes and parts we aren’t using and with money. Please give!

There is a wide selection of bikes. And the good part? When you buy a used bike from from Phoenix, it has been referbed. This is not a bike that has been sitting in the back yard rusting. This is a used bike that has been oiled, lubed, with new parts as needed. This is a bike that will be in good working order. Plus, oh yeah, its a great cause.
And for those of U that have exceeded the N+1 rule, Phoenix is a great opportunity to donate your bikes and get a tax deduction.
June 7, 2013 at 2:00 pm #972279dasgehParticipantI’ve been meaning to take one bike in for service and another for donation. What’s the schedule with the move?
June 7, 2013 at 2:02 pm #972280rcannon100ParticipantI believe the move is still on paper. They have a proposed site and are talking to the county.
All of Phoenix Bikes’ youth and community programs rely on donated bikes! Bikes, bike parts, and accessories are earned and customized by our youth mechanics, used for Team Phoenix youth rides, donated to community members in need of transportation, or refurbished and sold at the shop to support Phoenix’s educational programs. Youth mechanics learn from Phoenix staff, volunteer mentors, and peers how to maintain and repair the bikes, while gaining business skills, problem-solving experience, and confidence that comes from concrete accomplishments and service to community.
Most our bikes come from individual donors who have realized they have a bike that isn’t being ridden as much as it should be. That bike in your garage could change somebody’s life!
Phoenix Bikes also gets donated bikes from:
Apartments and Condos clearing out storage space
College campuses cleaning up bikes left behind
Police departments with unclaimed stolen and abandoned bikes
Volunteers organizing bikes donation drives
To donate a bike, bring it by the shop during any open hours.Unfortunately, we don’t currently have a way to pick up donated bikes. However, if you have a group of bikes to donate (condominiums, churches, community bike drives, etc.), or regularly have bikes (bike shops, police departments, etc.), it may be possible for us to coordinate a volunteer pick-up. Contact us with details or questions if you have a bunch of bikes!
Thanks for your support. Hope to see you at the shop soon!

If I had more time, I would try to do some projects with [old bike parts]. As I have negative free time, I’m hoping that Pheonix bikes will take them, and work with students/artists to make more bike-related art and jewelry and sell it. There’s great inspiration from the internet, but it seems hard to find places to buy them. Seems like a little shop of bike-related art would be a great fundraiser.
Would others buy it? Henry, would y’all be willing to take that on (I know, I know, with all of your free time)?

Way to go! I have Ever as a student and he is one of my favorites.
To add to Phoenix Bikes’ ability to make life-long-bikers, Ever is now on the NCVC Juniors. Being a true Phoenix kid, he is already helping one of his teammates build up a frame. So, not only can he tune a Campy derailuer, and do a mean track stand, he is now going to be a speedster tearing up Powhatan! -
