ParticipantThanks for putting this together. it was great meeting several of you on the loop. Riding with my little bug made me feel like I snagged all of Arlington’s KOM’s! My little girl pulled me the entire Ride. I was drafting her, sucking her wheel, and tried to pass several times, but she kept pulling away. She did finally let me pull in front for a quick picture.
She feels like 3 cents right now, but tomorrow when she is bragging to her friends, she will feel like a million bucks.
Thanks again

I would like to point out, Dirt makes this kind of picture looks so damn easy, I almost killed 12 people trying to do it

Passing her Mom who also did the loop and some,

ParticipantNeither did I, until someone showed me. You know that metal gate in the grass that blocks the dirt road that goes nowhere. That is the start. It starts wide like a fire trail, then it thins to a single track that zooms around trees and climbs up and down to the overpass hill. It kind of a weird route, but a lung buster.

ParticipantBy gravelly point in Arlington there is an open park that has a CX route. Just ride down to the Airport and sit watching the planes for a minute, and someone will be zooming by on a cross doing the route. Just follow him and the route will become apparent. They have a practice on Thursday nights at 6:00ish.
i think there is also a practice run in dc in the northwest on Wednesdays. Can’t remember where, sorry.
Also get hooked up with local CX stuff here: https://sites.google.com/site/dcmtbdccx/Btw, I’m not a CXer, just a poser who is getting into it as I fall over every hurdle.

Doesn’t JasonB ride his bike to his classroom to park it?
I’m on the 4th floor so that is where half of my elevation comes from. I need every inch to catch up to you crankers.
Actually WL Bike Club is on it for B2SD. Our club president is pretty awesome. He going to propose to the board for a third bike rack, for we are getting pretty packed with all the bikes.
Last week we took the club down to Gravelly Point for CX practice. It was a total blast. We also have a nice contingent heading out for tomorrow’s fun ride.

ParticipantAlthough somewhat obvious, but i was hoping, Fort Hunt is locked tight, so no speedy loops. Just as well, I haven’t been very speedy lately.

It’s hard to tell from that picture; is Lincoln staring across at Capitol Hill looking something like this?

Actually since there are no tourist around in a long time, Lincoln is off to the side having a cigarette and passing gas. Let’s face it, he deserves a little”Me Time”, being so proper for all these years.

ParticipantNot sure if the government workers are using the time to get fit, or people are gearing up for the marine corp marathon, but the MVT was packed with runners. All were polite, just packed.

If the Park Police are all on furlough, traffic is low, and the trails are closed, we might have no choice but to illegally ride on a certain scenic highway.
Highway? Under those conditions I’m eyeing a certain presidential parkway. I’m still smarting from the time I was pulled over the day they closed it to bikes.
But in all seriousness, this is terrible news, and I feel really sorry for all government workers and their families. I hope for all of you this doesn’t last and you can get back to your life as quickly as possible.September 30, 2013 at 8:43 pm in reply to: "I saw this deal, and thought someone might like it" thread. #982486Jason B

ParticipantThose are some nice pictures.
Could not have asked for better weather. That was my first time riding that fondo and I can say that has become my favorite ride. I didn’t do particularly well for I haven’t been training, but wow, what a pretty ride. The gravel highway through Amish country, saying hi to goats and zig zagging across all those rivers made it memorable. That Reddish Knob was painful, but that first gravel bit was absolutely brutal.September 28, 2013 at 12:54 pm in reply to: "I saw this deal, and thought someone might like it" thread. #982357Jason B
ParticipantFor you non-freezing saddle junkies, don’t forget to pick up your trainer while they are still cheap. I picked up an unused cyclops fluid for $75 this summer. Below is a good deal on a mag. Don’t get hung up on the mag vs. fluid. If you never used one, you will be sweating just the same on either, and man do you sweat. Next month you can add at least another $50 to any trainer you see now on Craigslist. Oh yea, when you buy a used one, ask them to throw in the block, they ain’t gonna be using it.

Didn’t your mama ever tell you “look but don’t touch”! Ewwwwwwww
Actually, she was a biologist, she told me to grab anything that moves. Can’t tell you how many times I have been bit!

ParticipantThanks for the advice. The Mavics look like what I was looking for and a good price to boot!
The Assos, although obviously great, might force me to wear my latex long coat and change my name to Neo. Besides, Assos has yet to make a ‘double wide’ size for me.
Thanks againJason B
ParticipantI haven’t caught one of these in years. It was on my ride down to Mt. Vernon. It is either a green mamba or a rough green tree snake. I’m going with the mamba.

As you can see, he wasn’t impressed by my average speed.
