ParticipantI just came from Bethesda via CCT to Alexandria via MVT. Be careful on bridges and overpasses. It was getting slick. Lots of slushy melting ice pellets. 14th St. Bridge was similar. Just hold a line and you’ll be fine. It’s all over now, hope everything melts away instead of freezes over.

ParticipantMVT from Slaters Lane, Alexandria to and over the 14th St bridge was clear and mostly dry. Few wet spots that might freeze overnight but very manageable. Airport bridges were clear and dry.

Congrats! We just passed the BiPolar Bears to move back into 8th place. Congrats to Komorebi who logged legit miles while in Atlanta. Nice work!
Looks like Powerful Pete got in some good miles with ccfinger, too.
Agggrrrhhhh!!!! We’ll be back!!!!! your hold on eighth is tenuous at best!

Is Alexandria City salting the MVT in its borders? The amount of salt on MVT between Pendleton and Canal/First is crazy.
I was wondering the same thing. I just rode through there tonight and the amount of salt was ridiculous. I almost wiped out riding through it.

The powers-that-be can correct me, but I think these sorts of actions should be taken by the team captain, rather than individual team members deciding to act ad-hoc on substantive issues.
You’re right vern, my apologies. I’ll let Greg take care of this, it’s not my place to do so.

ParticipantI just contacted Amalitza about Rads about either helping find him/her or asking about a substitution. Will keep you posted.

ParticipantMVT from North Old Town to 14th st bridge was clear, even drying out is some spots. Airport bridges were also clear and dry. Tiny patch of slush right before turning onto the bridge ramp but very doable.
CCT northbound. Some slushy spots on the DC side, very passable though. I was on my hybrid with 32mm slicks. Further North I went the colder it got, as a result, some more patches of slush/ice around that tunnel, definitely icy though on a few small overpasses, like the one just north of the tunnel by the treatment plant, and where it crosses over Mass. Ave.
Otherwise I would say doable with some common sense. Just keep a reasonable pace and stay aware and you should be fine.

ParticipantHi Greg,
I’m sorry, but I set up a Strava group on Saturday. I didn’t mean to step on the Captain’s toes, I just got excited. Here’s a link http://www.strava.com/clubs/121125/members
Join up and I will make you the group admin.
Thanks.

This?
http://www.rei.com/product/838688/gore-bike-wear-phantom-windstopper-soft-shell-convertible-bike-jacket-mens. I should run and get it at $120? I have a light windbreaker – this is for colder conditions – REI says spring and fall. For FS I would layer something else with it?
I have that exact jacket and I love it. Even when it’s in the 20s I can get by with just a base layer underneath it. I went out this morning when it was cold with a base layer, a short sleeve jersey and this jacket and I was really really comfortable. Just be aware, the jacket runs small. I’m 5’4″ and a little bit thick and I went with a large.
I love this jacket. I also recommend the under armor cold weather gear base layers. I have one of these and it is thick and really comfortable without being bulky.

ParticipantI’m leaving from the north end of Old Town, heading through Potomac yards and picking up 4MR from there. Hopefully I’ll see you guys along the way. I doubt I’ll be on the road much before 5:30 though. I have a new bright orange helmet! Maybe you’ll see me.

The MoCo side of the CCT was icy but with plenty of clear paths so not bad at all. The DC side had been plowed at a different time and had a layer of thin-ish smooth ice. Some parts were ridable near the edge but many were not. I took to the tow path at Fletchers and rode that in. Still slow but it worked.
With the sun out and the warmer temps I think the thin layer of ice will melt fast so this afternoon will prob. be perfect. Hopefully that’s the same on the MVT.
It was a gorgeous morning and worth the extra time for these views.

Thanks for the video! Keep them coming! That’s the first I’ve seen of the CCT since the weather. I hope it warms up and clears soon or I’ll never be able to climb that trail to work and back.

The streets in my neighborhood aren’t plowed so I can’t even sneak in a sleaze ride…maybe I could ride loops in my basement.
Yes!!! Please do this! I’d love to see how the route would look on Strava. You should also make it a segment. You’ll be the KOM no matter how fast you go and then we, and other random cyclists, can come to your house and ride the segment in your basement too. If you let us in…
I’ll bring beer.
