We have one at work. I’m quite certain I can’t use it for personal items. Abuse of hard-earned taxpayer money, you know.
That’s not AT ALL helpful, is it?
(if you want, I can ask our mechanical design guys if they have any vendor recommendations, but I doubt they’d have someone cheaper than you can find on your own).
I need to find one of these workshops:

Looks awesome… $0.50/min to use a ‘bot.

Vicegrips and a flat head screwdriver always worked for me! Now I buy the steel freehub bodies.
You sir, are missing the point. I’ve been looking for an excuse to make something but wanted to make something that I could actually use. After a recent flailing with every known cassette extraction technique (including the TSA (throw sh&* around) method) I came up with a better way. Now I shall have a tiny army of plastic minions build it for me out of the ether. Because I can.

ParticipantFirst, awesome that you are thinking of this…
Some brands (notably Patagonia) will take back used-up gear/clothing for re-insertion into their supply chain or use in other projects (e.g. artificial turf) but I’m not aware of any bike gear sellers or manufacturers that do the same. Lycra as a fabric is not absorbent and not terribly easy to break down but there is a company in NJ that does industrial-scale re-purposing (http://www.tranclo.com/) you could call them and ask about local drop-offs.

I just heard that Tim Kaine is stopping by Green Lizard at 9:30am today.
Yup- members of his staff were there doing prep. Great FMCC III showing by the way, 8-9 people make for a happy Green Lizard.

ParticipantAnyone game? I’ll be there on the early side- 7:15ish. Hoping to get Hozn to join for a bit.

ParticipantPhoenix was happy to take them. First time I’ve actually been in there- probably 15 young mechanics scurrying around 500+ beater bikes. Very cool scene.

Is Strava just another NSA tool?????

ParticipantGreat showing today! Good to meet FFX Hinterlands and see Culimerc… Maybe we can suck in that Muni guy (36″ commuting unicycle) for local flavor.
Dave the owner thanked us for the business, it feels good to support a new shop that is doing something different.
Hopefully, I’ll see ya’ll next week.

ParticipantI’m going tomorrow- should be there at 7:30 ish… anyone else?

ParticipantWas this from the ride? http://vimeo.com/68001999
Freaking crazy- did the course really double back on itself without any dividing cones right after a tunnel?
GuyContinental
ParticipantJust came off a very very wet ride to Purcelsville and back- no lightning anywhere, almost zero wind but 4MRT is already impassible at Bluemont and was within a few inches of being on the trail at Rt 50.

ParticipantI find myself in an awkward position. On the one hand I’m trying to START FMCC III in Herndon, on the other, I can just walk to FMCC II and I really don’t have a good reason to go to Herndon except that it will force me to ride at least 40 miles.
Bottom line, if it’s super nasty expect to see me (sheepishly) showing up at “II”

ParticipantBumping this up- I’m definitely going and dragging at least one BA lurker along with me. 7:15 ish.

… to get ALL the dirt off a chain?
Instructions for cleaning/lubing your chain always say to just keep wiping the chain until no more dirt comes off… I have never gotten to this point, even with degreaser.
Do these people have an infinite supply of rags or something?
These are the things I ponder at 5:30 AM when I’m cleaning my chain.
New bike if I’m following things correctly… probably means new chain with factory grease. Sheldon Brown (who gets many more points than I ever will) says it’s the best protectant ever… I can’t stand it. Vile stuff. Attracts filth like nothing else. First thing I do with a new chain is degrease the hell out of it (using a sonic cleaner) and then re-lube with a lube of MY choosing (generally a thin petro lube like Pro-Link).
