ParticipantI have a hard time picturing how the new cycle track will connect to the rest of Fairfax drive. Won’t you end up on the wrong side of the street if you’re coming from the Custis trail, take the new cycle track — then you need to cross Glebe right?

ParticipantHi Trish, welcome to the forum! Yes, this thread is for yesterday’s storm (and I can also personally confirm that the trail is clear, at least between Lee Highway and the Ballston Connector near Glebe Road).

ParticipantWhen this article was posted here, the total was $4,445. Now it’s almost $8k, an amazing increase in only a few hours.

ParticipantHere is a picture of the Custis trail around 5.00 pm today, taken from the Lincoln St/Monroe St bridge over 66 (near Hayes Park).

ParticipantPersonally, I don’t have many problems with the trail there as it is right now. Alternative 1 seems to be a nice clean-up.

ParticipantCustis is now nice and dry.
I ran tonight from Lee Highway/Lyon Village shopping center to the Ballston Beaver Pond and there was very little snow or slush left on the trail, and no ice at all. The large pile of snow behind Lyon Village is much smaller; I don’t believe it is blocking the trail.

ParticipantThe Dutch embassy has loaner bikes for employees. No bakfietsen though!

ParticipantFix the bike lane on Quincy, north-bound after the crossing with Washington Blvd. For 200 yards the bike lane is discontinued, and then interrupted by 3 parking spots. This forces bicyclist into motor traffic that is accelerating after making the crossing with Washington.
There are sharrows on the road but it’s unsafe.

ParticipantYes, Custis trail is kept nicely free from leaves, nice job.

ParticipantI may be mistaken, but in front of the entrance at Whole Foods in Clarendon there are metal barriers (bolted to the ground) that are perfect for bike parking. I always assumed they were meant for that — are they not? I always use them and I’ve seen many other people do so.

ParticipantOut of curiosity, what are the borings for?

Maybe the trail re-alignment will fix this???
I agree that the intersection is pretty messed up. Arlington has done well over the past years but there is still plenty of work to be done. There are two improvements slated for that area, if I’m not mistaken:
– The Ballston Pond renovation will improve some of the trails: http://www.arlingtonva.us/departments/EnvironmentalServices/Sustainability/page75451.aspx
– The Marymount building will be torn down and replaced, which will include a cycle track. http://www.arlingtonva.us/departments/CPHD/planning/applications/site_plans/page89730.aspxGuus
ParticipantGina, I am sorry to hear about this and wish you a speedy recovery.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE call this in to the ACPD non emergency line. There’s a school right there (which would be helpful to point out). 703-558-2222 In fact, the more people who call it in, the more likely we’ll get some enforcement.
I just called, and they said that they need a license plate to record incidents like this. Maybe I should get a camera…
