ParticipantCan anyone recommend a good tape for riding without gloves? I’m mostly commuting but sometimes doing longer road-type rides. I have the original tape on my Specialized Tricross; I like that it’s cushy, but it gets slick pretty easily.
Thanks —

ParticipantNot sure about when the sale ends, but REI has Thule racks at 20% off right now. If you’re buying new, etc. Disclaimer: I have no affiliation.

ParticipantI’m tall enough but I’m not sure I’m man enough to build up a bike. Hm.

ParticipantI got my new rain jacket in the mail yesterday but couldn’t quite muster the courage to test it out commuting today . . . .
So I drove.

ParticipantI, along with another rider, trailed a couple of Capitol Police officers riding two-abreast on 15th Street the other morning. I thought of it as riding in a cyclecade.

ParticipantI’m pretty new to bike commuting (Alexandria <--> NoMa), but have heard enough about adding the Hains Point loop that I decided to do it this morning. What a treat. Beautiful day, nice road, pretty scenery. And inspiring to be passed by a group of 4 riders in a mini-peloton that sounded like a Prius when it went by. I can’t wait to get back out there.

ParticipantLocation: MVT Southbound, the ramp up just after the runway end. Probably about 6:35 this evening.
You: Just coming up out of the saddle to kick it up the ramp.
Me: Passing you on the left (I called it, at least?), a total douche move on an ascent.
My explanation: I had just gunned it through the flat and had momentum and was trying to get home before the rain broke. I’m sorry if it seemed like I was trying to win an ambush/race that came out of nowhere. I plead circumstantial, rather than intentional, douchery.

ParticipantI’m not hardcore, by any stretch of the imagination, and in fact am pretty new to riding. I can’t help but notice that there are many bike jerseys on the market bearing the logos of delicious beers. I happen to own one, from Bell’s, and am pleased that there seems to be a complementary relationship between cycling and beer. All of which is to say — let’s leave well enough alone and keep enjoying the ride and the refreshments!
