I never said I own the country, but you’re right, you own it just like I do. That doesn’t give you the right to block the lane and be an a****le to the cyclist legally using the lane and not being rude when he tells you that you’re standing in the road.

I just couldn’t say anything to him. His response to “You’re standing in the middle of the road” was “Yeah, so?”. I just can’t deal with that lack of logic.

Lastnight I was stopped on Penn and 7 N at the red light next to One of those guys. He was sitting in the middle of the lanes with his camera pointed at the Capital building.

I was testing my new toy, boombotix boombox, had the volume turned all the way up. That thing is super loud and can be heard like almost two blocks away. I was blasting bloody well right by super tramp in his ear. We was giving me a look so I ignored him and stayed until I had the green even though I could have went as there was no traffic at all….

Felt good… Does that make me a sadist?

Well, this a crazy missed connection involving me. Backed into parking space on 14street near U street NW and a bicyclist stopped short of running into the back of me.

I did not see him. I did see the other bicyclist approaching me from behind- why see one & not the other?

The first cyclist was wearing dark clothing and NO lighting equipment nor any visibility clothing. Its dark & raining. He had no eye protection, the rain was probably in his eyes which is why he almost ran into the back of me or did not notice me until I was in the bike lane while reversing into a parking space.

The second cyclist had a flashing light on the front of his bike. No other visibility equipment, but he could be seen- i knew he was there.

After the near collision I rolled my window to speak with him, he merely said “watch it my man” and pedaled off while I was yelling out for him to come back…

Get some visibility equipment, it’ll save you from missed connections and probably your life!!!

-side note, wanted him to come back so I could point out his equipment deficiency..

Was he with dreadlocks on a very long homemade bike with space frame and multiple freewheels? I don’t remember the boombox so he maybe a different rider, but I mostly saw him very near the Queenstown area.

He was balding in the front, may have had dreads in the back. I don’t remember the setup of his bike…

Several years ago on the Capital Crescent I passed a dude on a hybrid bike, pulling a cargo trailer, with one of those old-school boomboxes bungeed in the center, blasting “eye of the tiger” full blast as he rode down the trail. It was pretty awesome.

In the early 90’s there was this guy who I would see riding in Mount Rainier / Hyattsville who pulled a trailer with a humongous boom box. I think he lived in or around Queenstown apartments off 34th Street. I’ve spoken to him before but never got his name… The internet was not in full bloom yet then. I wonder where he is these days.

Not to rehash old posts, just wanted to point out the person who led our sane ride ( Mr. Kugler ) … Maybe you could point out the person who some may want to avoid riding with

My CaBi is faster than your Bimmer. Looks like you had fun sitting on L Street though.

If he was white and wearing a ball cap he was probably same the guy douching it Mass ave NW cutting me and every other unimportant person off.

As a full on headphone hater I’ve taken to playing muzak sans headphones on the MVT to get peoples attention since calling passes and bell ringing either confuses or infuriates the iZombies. It would amaze you how many people look around when they hear “Safe European Home” by the Clash being blasted by a dude in business casual frantically ringing his bell. A dude in his 60s asked if I was playing “Give ’em enough rope” as I passed him, which was pretty boss.

I’m sure folks see your presence as another enjoyable moment on their jog/commute…. Good sir, may I suggest a play list of things to blast? I’ll start with Hocus Pocus by Focus!……

YES YES YES, a camera with GPS that can receive heart rate monitor and all that jazz…. When the price drops another 100-150 bucks I may snatch one up.

Cheap camera are great for when you break & loose, its very true… I like my toys though!

Don’t leave us hanging… was it easy??

    ;)

Oh yeah, it was nice & easy. My first ride, with exception of the WABA safety class I took.

I was paying attention to the leader and noticed that almost any speed he went he kept the same rpms.

The guy, can’t remember his name, seemed to have a laid back, calm, attitude about himself.

Some time ago I asked about getting from SW to Blue Plaines as mapping a bike route kept taking me along South Capitol street. I never rode that route and opted to drive. Glad I did, I think I would have bailed if that group ride started heading down South Cap.

I’ve done a group ride with Bicycle Space before, it was the ‘nice & easy’ ride. The group leader abided by traffic laws. There was no craziness involved.

There were no waivers. We showed up and waited for a few moments for more people to arrive. We greeted each other and rolled out. It was nice.

I have a theory… Try using space bags. They have them in all different sizes.
