Dramatic sky, an appropriate backdrop for Skye. What a great ride this was!

Hi everyone just a quick update. This is Fast Friendly Guy, and today I am at the top of the leaderboard for Freezing Scalpels.yep that’s right today is my shoulder surgery but I’m looking forward to a speedy recovery and back on the bike. Glad to see that Karen B is doing such a great job maintaining the Pomroy tradition

Ouch! So sorry to hear that. From your dislocation a while ago?

Yup. Took a spill, at relatively low speed, but the angle was just wrong and POW!…my right arm was disconnected from the rest of me. I felt like a marionette with a broken string! Standing slowly and relaxing my shoulder, miraculously, it popped back IN. Oh, and it hurt. Since the accident, which occurred last Saturday after a loop w Karen B, I took the long way for the last bit, so I was alone. I was riding slowly, no traffic, cloudy but good conditions, lazily watching my feet on the pedals, when I looked up only in time to narrowly avert a collision with a parked car! Still, I lost my balance, my chain slipped off, and my shoulder grazed the rear left of the car–it didn’t take much. The redislocation can now occur when ever I reach or raise my arm (such as drinking coffee) Well, I’d been on the fence about surgery before this but, COFFEE? Now there’s no question. Hopefully I’ll be riding again before Spring.

    ALL,

I’m okay, but my shoulder is not. Doc says I need an operation. My spirits are fine with one regretful exception: I must withdraw from BAFS15, and willingly offer my place to a worthy waitlister.

Best of luck to everyone…especially those superb riders who I was hoping to challenge, but who know’s I may be riding again before spring!

Is there something we need to do? ArlingtonRider said she thought we needed to take some action to permit data exchange between STAVA and Bike Forum…what action and how do you do it? Everything worked frine last year for me. Karen B is a new BAFS participant this year so she may need to do something also!

A link would be great! Thanks and see you out there!

Awesome. I love this one. Milloy’s name deserves to be remembered this way.

I propose a third variation on the definition:

    3. the act of expressing anger toward a cyclist based on a misunderstanding of traffic law: a motorist Milloyed me today by yelling at me that bikes are supposed to be on the sidewalk, not the road.

A variation: a cyclist Milloyed a NINJA on purpose to show (in terrifying fashion) what can happen by accident when a ped or jogger wears dark clothes without lights or reflectors. (a stupid act that actually teaches the ped nothing, and usually causes more guilt than satisfaction for the cyclist)

Peds don’t have to signal their turns but they do have to look first otherwise they are doing a crazy ivan. She may or may not have called out audibly; we can’t judge. My experience has been that most peds have earbuds in or are in their own little world and don’t hear my bell or voice.

And let’s face it. If you were passing a cyclist in a car and he suddenly pulled out in front of you without looking and you hit him, you’d surely be blaming the biker.

When voice and bell fail to work or a ped (or cyclist) is wearing headphones I’m mighty glad I have my lifeguard/police whistle ready before I pass…and I’m not afraid to use it!

Rod Smith’s Strava bike ride, about a month earlier, was the inspiration for this GPS ride art. We rode together on a beautiful summer Sunday morning, Rod using the map and I using my Garmin Edge 810. You can see the map on Rod’s handlebars. We were the ultimate team, Rod suggesting refinement’s on-the-fly and me tracking our progress on the GPS!
