I like that idea! You’ve got a back-up! You can leave your first gaiter in the laundry basket and still have one for a ride!

Komorebi: Is there a sign-up sheet for the gaiter?

I’ve been thinking about drafting etiquette, in general, and in the time of COVID19. It seems to me that the drafter is the one at risk not the draftee. A drafter is somewhat close and in line for inhaled fluids/germs from the rider in front. I can’t see where the reverse is true. Even a drafter’s snot rocket can’t fly against the wind to endanger the rider in front. There may be good reasons to discourage someone from drafting you, but I don’t think fear of contagion is one.

First-year participant here! A few highlights for me:

“Drawing” a manta ray in Arlington on Dave Pomeroy’s Strava art ride! This is something I’ve always wanted to do, so I was thrilled that Freezing Saddles brought about this opportunity. Thanks so much for making that happen, Dave! I would love to participate in more of these in the future, so please keep me posted. After the ride, Dave also guided me on my first journey over the Memorial Bridge. (Somehow while bike commuting for 6 years, I just never rode over it before!)

    !

    dear dragonflycrk,
Glad to hear you enjoyed our ride. I did, too! Riders like you are the success story of Freezing Saddles. It’s such a joy for us oldtimers to see newbies to FS get involved and embrace the challenge. You are welcome to join me on future GPS Art Rides. I’ll post them in advance in “Events”. None scheduled for now, but there might be one in April.
Hope to see you on the trail, Dave

Just a reminder: A week from Saturday, everyone who’s interested will meet at 9:30 AM at the Spout Run Italian Store. I just saw the Italian Store doesn’t open until later, but there’s a STARBUCKS next door where early birds can meet for coffee and warmth before the ride! We’re expecting an on-time departure so get to Starbucks early if you want a hot beverage before we begin!

    Black Diamonds, Everyone! All welcome!

Tomorrow is the big day. I plan to get to Starbucks around 9 AM before the ride for coffee to warm us up for the start!
Ride begins at 9:30 AM. All participants who complete the artwork are guaranteed at least 67 BAFS 2020 points!

The artwork is a surprise. You won’t know what your drawing (riding) until you finish. Pointless Prize awarded on the spot awarded to the first rider to identify the picture! (brand new Capital Bike Share sunglasses)

Swings on Monday (usual time) sounds good. Family responsibilities means I can’t make Mike’s. :-(

I heard today at the Dark Star line-up from someone who know Nancy Holt and she said Dark Star refers to the Jerry Garcia instrumental by the same name.

Boomer, thanks for your great photo record of our Bicycle Fun Club Public Art Ride. I like the way you also took shots of the displayed descriptions.
Considering the Forum max photo restriction, I am impressed you had the patience to post them all. Thanks also for riding sweep. See you when you
    get back.

Hello, Everyone! It looks like great weather for the Bicycle Fun Club Arlington Art Ride

Karen B and I plan to get to Compass Coffee a little before 9:00 and anyone interested can join us and the other early-birds for coffee/snacks.
We will leave promptly at 9:30 for nearby Dark Star to see maximum shadow line-up (the actual lineup is a few days later, Aug 1, but during the work week.)

There’s lots to see, so from there we will proceed to explore amazing art works along the Rosslyn-Ballston corridor. Time permitting, we will continue our ride to Shirlington, Crystal City, Long Bridge Park, and back to Rosslyn. For those who want a shorter ride, or if we are running out of time, I have an alternate shorter route back to Rosslyn with plenty of artworks to see. We will play it by ear with the original plan or shorter alternate.

    See you tomorrow

Ted, Fantastic! This is going to be fun. I wasn’t sure where you start in DC, but this option starts from Swings (FCC).

If you don’t mind city streets you could alternatively take Pennsylvania Ave to M St, Key Br, and Ft Meyer Dr to Dark Star. Direct and easy via busy city streets.
Meet before for coffee at Compass.(see route)
