If you announce a prize, that means you’re volunteering to make the award(s), right??
Yes, it would be (is) my honor! I’ve already selected the to-be-coveted awards!

We could have a caravan meet at the Jeff, do a ceremonial lap around HP, and then head over
If I’m not mistaken jrenaut already has proposed something like this. Two caravans? Or one big one?

“Ustasdel yer bister!” is Ukranian for “Good. I’d like to meet that poor lonely woman!”

[The high point in Florida] …has a prominence of 65 feet, and is the lowest high point of any state; the mocking stands.
Here’s some interesting bicycle trivia. When I was at the 14,000 ft camp on McKinley/Denali In Alaska, I met a guy with a road bike (the truth!) He had achieved recognition for riding the length of the Great Wall of China, and his intention was to ride/bring his bike to every state high point. There are roads near the summit on only a handful of state high points (Florida is one) He told me he had to carry it partially disassembled on this climb. When I saw him later on the way to 17,000′ he had a bike wheel in his gloved hand. I don’t think he made it to the summit–with or without his bike. He also told me he’d run into trouble on Mt Rainier in Washington, because the rangers said bikes were not allowed. His name was Kevin Foster.

I think we determined there were some privacy issues with this. RCannon has the handicap data but it’s not in the database that powers the FreezingSaddles.com site. I’m happy to do the data analysis part of this but you’ll have to discuss with RCannon whether we want to share the data or not.
I’m curious about this too, but without knowing each competitor’s intentions, it may be impossible to spot sandbaggers. If someone has ridden significantly more than their handicap, does this mean sandbagging or rising to the intended challenge to ride more than usual? I can’t remember what I put as my handicap, but it’s almost certainly my Nov/Dec average (though that was influenced upward by the Rapha Festive 500 challenge) Weren’t handicaps used exclusively for balancing the teams? Still, I think it would be interesting to know what I put as my own handicap.

What is notable about DaveK’s post is that he thinks they have a hill in Florida.
DaveK is not the only one….so do I…and I climbed it: Britton Hill is the highest natural point in the state of Florida, with a summit topping out at 345′

Wet? Dry? Who cares, it’s still a dollar! All I seem to find while riding is pennies and dimes–and I ALWAYS pick them up!

ParticipantI know you’ll think I’m nuts, and I’m certainly ready for Spring, but I’m going to miss snow rides like this!
Most streets are plowed and salted in VA and DC and so are most but not all sidewalks. Biggest problem is cars spraying brown slush ten feet on either side! Best sidewalk clearing is in DC around Federal buildings, parks, and monuments. Key and Memorial bridge sidewalks are generally crappy, so it’s a real toss up whether or not to ride in the street. Hains Point was (surprise!) cleared with bare road on the DC side, but the Virginia side was pristine snow (2-4 inches) with a few foot prints and tracks from one fat bike and two cross bikes. I mostly stayed off trails, but Route 110 trail between Arlington Cemetery and Iwo Jima was rutted and only passable on studded tires; Custis was similarly bad Ballston Connector to George Mason Dr. (I didn’t see beyond that).
