I started to wonder if it had all been a dream.

I saw a group of unlit guys on bikes riding the wrong way going toward the Pentagon on Columbia Pike under 27 last night after dark in Arlington. I imagine they did this because the sidewalk on which they were probably riding is abruptly closed there. I feel like this area is an accident waiting to happen.

I heard back that they would inform the town of Herndon. Thanks.

I emailed NRVPA but it was not clear to me whom I should email.

I also was stung yesterday on the W&OD. I think it was a bee, not a yellow jacket. I finished my ride, but my knee is swelling up today. I was wearing white and black, for what that’s worth. Still better that the time I was stung on my tongue while riding on Custis. I’m a mouth breather.

Three times in the past week, I have been asked for directions by lost cyclists around the Pentagon. I know they’re going to stop me when I see the telltale signs: smartphone in hand, befuddled expression on face as head spins around looking for a clue, often on a CABI bike and an international visitor who understimated how easy it would be to spin around the major sites by bicycle (physically, very easy; mentally, not so much). It would be really great if some signs could be posted in this area. There is no need for this level of confusion and frustration by cyclists and I can’t man my bike route-advice stand every day.

I could be mistaken, but there did not seem to be media coverage of this until Sunday or Monday. I certainly would have helped to look for her on Friday if I had heard, having had relatives with dementia. Very sad.

I know that others have discussed how to stregthen the relationship between Capital Bikeshare the Feds. There is or was a group advocating bicycle amongs Feds. I hope the group hasn’t died. http://www.fedbikes.org/

While it could be worse, the Pentagon has a lot of room for improvement when it comes to cycling, starting with its complete lack of signs. There certainly is plenty of room for a CaBi station. In 9 years of riding around it, I have yet to see a full parking lot – not that I like full parking lots, I just think the space could be better utilized. Is there really no room to apply pressure?

I saw a boy get hit at this intersection once about 4 years ago. He seemed to be ok. A woman stopped and give him a ride home.

Does anyone know whether 1% or 5% applies when the building was gutted for a complete overhaul (to be become LEED certified no less)? Thanks.

I know it is extremely generous of them to offer food and I should probably keep my mouth shut, but it would be super awesome if they could also offer recycling containers. I rode home with my own can, but that’s a lot of cans and bottles to be tossing into an incinerator.

Did I miss the recycling? Has this been discussed before? Am I the only one who cares? This was my first food night where drinks were offered. I will email Freshbikes but I’m curious.

Also, I’m curious if an ambulance is called to every ride. Saw a guy being loaded tonight. I wish him the best.

Thanks for your descriptions. It is left out of the parking lot (I guess you mean left after the bridge) to get to the Transit Center that I struggled with.

Tonight, yet again, I was bicycling over 14th and ran into a guy who was trying to cross the road (as opposed to going down to the MVT) with his 11-year old daughter on the way to Pentagon City Mall. I took him through Columbia Island with me because I wasn’t sure what he and his daughter had ahead of them going that way.

Guess I’m not the only one who regularly runs into lost German tourists around the Pentagon…probably headed to pick up their cheap Apple gear at Pentagon City before flying back to Germany. I still don’t understand why the Pentagon has to be so osbtructionist.
