1/9/21 – Balloon. Happy hunting!
On January 9, 1793: “Blanchard made the first balloon flight in North America, on January 9, 1793, when he ascended from the Washington Prison Yard in Philadelphia and landed in Gloucester county, New Jersey. This flight, observed by President George Washington, spurred interest in ballooning in the United States.”

Thanks for the last few days’ submissions everyone. I’m loving the entries and the tidbits of info that come with them. I’m sorry I haven’t been able to tally yet, I’ve been a little swamped at work and life, and just trying to squeeze my rides when I can.

1/8/21 – Bell (but not on a bike) OR an Elvis
January 8 is Elvis Presley’s birthday. What were at the bottom of his jumpsuits? Bells! Post a pic of a bell that isn’t on a bike OR an Elvis you spot on your ride (just 1 pic please). Happy hunting!

1/7/21 – Moon
On January 7, 1610, Galileo discovered 3 of the moons of Jupiter. Creative entries encouraged, but if your photo of your “moon” is not apparent, please explain. Happy hunting!

I do agree with you that there are hordes of geese on my riding routes on ART and Lake Artemesia right now. Some of them taking their sweet time to clear off the path even though I ask nicely.

Rod, I coincidentally got 2 new pairs of glasses (vision and computer) yesterday and even with both of them, I couldn’t easily see the bird in your pic. I had to zoom like 10,000% until I finally saw it.

Not only is it National Bean Day, it’s Rowan Atkinson’s (aka Mr Bean) birthday! Small business definitely means no Chipotle, Starbucks, Dunkin’ Donuts, and Baja Fresh. Again, it’d be cool if it’s a place you actually like – and if you’d want to – explain why.

Calvinball has had a few years to settle in, while this has had a few days. I’ve made the rules because it already takes me long enough to tally them.
For example, imagine if I didn’t say to post just one picture a day. I’d have to quit my job just to get through the posts.
Imagine also if I didn’t say to post your pic from that day’s hunt. I have seen in other games where people waited until the last day to post all their findings. I am not going to go through 3000 pictures on the last day.
What about the rule I added later about not bringing something from home? It’s just too easy to grab something in your house, go outside on a bike ride and snap a pic of it. I didn’t expect that someone would do that, but it happened, so I had to specify to please not do that. What’s the point of the photo hunt if you aren’t going to go look for something?
After a few tries, it becomes easy enough.

I’m sorry that I didn’t give a point to historygeek, NoVaNoobGA, and Mootsfy because they had pics with “zz” in the sign, but that was specific in the hunt request. No worries though, we have maaaaaaaaaany more hunts to go before the end of Freezing Saddles

Yes, as some have noted, bikes are not required to be in the picture unless specifically requested for that day’s photo hunt.
