    I said that he was in a clearly marked crosswalk. Isn’t that covered in section 1 of the law you cited?

    I dunno, are they ‘ands’ or ‘ors’? What’s the definition of at the crosswalk? is that waiting on the sidewalk? do you have to be in the crosswalk already? I find piles of the code confusing. What does it mean to not disregard traffic? pffffffffffffttttttttttt

    Yesterday I was driving up Rolling Road, just north of Old Keene Mill Road, about 4:30 pm. An older gentleman was standing on the corner, trying to cross Rolling Road *in the crosswalk*. After watching a police car drive by and not stop, I had the audacity to stop to let the poor man cross. The car next to me did the right thing and stopped too. For a moment I thought that I was going to get rear-ended, and then the horns started honking behind us.

    That was the best thing I did all day.

    Not to be that person, but if you are talking about where I think you are talking about on Rolling, the speed limit is 40mph. Which means you are not to yield to the pedestrian.

    § 46.2-924. Drivers to stop for pedestrians; installation of certain signs; penalty.
    A. The driver of any vehicle on a highway shall yield the right-of-way to any pedestrian crossing such highway:

    1. At any clearly marked crosswalk, whether at mid-block or at the end of any block;

    2. At any regular pedestrian crossing included in the prolongation of the lateral boundary lines of the adjacent sidewalk at the end of a block;

    3. At any intersection when the driver is approaching on a highway or street where the legal maximum speed does not exceed 35 miles per hour.

    I dislike that law abiding is posited as irrational for cyclists. Break the law if you want, justify it as you want, but don’t judge those many of us who deem traffic laws as part of the same social contract that all laws serve.

    I don’t see it as any different than law abiding being irrational for motorists. Swing round the beltway doing 55 or less and let me know how safe you feel? I dislike that the social contract is not enforced. But that’s the point right? It’s not enforced because we get the infrastructure users that the quality of the infrastructure deserves.

    Yeah I got all steamed up and forgot my forum golden rule where I don’t read crash threads. All it does it play with my mental balance of how safe cycling actually is.

    Please someone needs to do this. I was hit at that intersection by a driver who blasted through the walking signal because they were looking left to turn right. I was in the crosswalk. Cops said I was at fault even though I was at a coasting speed around 10mph. I’ve seen so many cyclists and runners get bumped by cars doing the exact same thing. This light needs a NO TURN ON RED.

    Wait, to be clear – you were hit by a motor vehicle while you were in a crosswalk with the walk signal on and you were found at fault?

    I was bummed when the Mosaic location closed. It was super handy to have a bike shop there as its a half-way point on my commute. After initial concerns they were always nice to me and let me leave my bike in the shop when I forgot a lock and needed to pop into Target. I’ve been using Spokes in Vienna recently and am a bit mehhhhhhhhh on them really.

    Bob is, of course, correct. Woke up this morning still very coughy/congested. Sleaze ride this afternoon and likely same thing tomorrow. Back commuting Thursday and Friday. In Harrisonburg VA for MiL’s bday this weekend which is rough. Going to miss some prime weather and will only be able to sleaze while there. At this rate I’m going to have to accompany Bob on some of those 50 milers to make up all these missing miles!

    Godspeed. That is never fun. Particularly around these parts.

    Good Morning Everyone!

    Sorry for the delay. I’m Daniel, this is my 3rd BAFS. My wife and I just had our first child (7 months old now) so I am a diseased monster who has no voice and a cold that is about 2 weeks old. I live near the Vienna Metro, so things off the W&O and in Vienna are perfect for me, though my daily commute doesn’t take me that way really.

    Team wise it looks like maybe a weekend ride/meetup during the day?

    I am all-in on the complicated fear of the number 13 name.

    Those over the top of your preferred fleece winter tights. My legs will sweat if I wear the combo at anything above 20.

    Watch the sizing. Its all sorts of wild. Those crazy Asians.

    I was a fan of my two belt drive bikes but I ended up selling both of them and now have a 1×11 regular chain powered doohickie.

    As some have mentioned, the cleanliness of the belt can be slightly overstated, though the lack of maintenance is 100% spot on. I would ask for a demonstration/tutorial on rear wheel removal/tensioning on whatever model you are looking into and consider it a major factor in what you purchase.

    Some companies have very clumsy systems that require a lot of work to get the tensioning back/wheel on correctly, while others have some amazing designs that are much simpler to get the rear wheel back in just the right place. Also, rear wheel flats can be a pita.

    What are the legal repercussions? If I’m injured by a motor vehicle parked in a bike lane are they responsible? If I damage a motor vehicle parked in a bike lane am I responsible?

    If both vehicles are cars and we are talking about a standard vehicle lanes does it change the outcome of responsibility?

    The internet has told me that in Massachusetts the moving vehicle is always at fault – just wondering if in this area anyone knows.

    As someone who put up a mediocre 1,173 points last year and is now going to be going in with a six month old – generally speaking – would anyone be excited to have me on their team? I can do any team meetup as long as its at Caboose off the W&O or any place in the Mosaic District. I’m super flexible. Swear.

    Seriously – I’m looking for a general idea of if I’d meet the bar for “good teammate” or if it’s better for me to sit it out this year.
