ParticipantIf it’s a well-worn rear tire, the tread be flatter in the the center because it’s the drive wheel. Maybe when you were cornering, you were moving back and forth across the thicker corner in the tread at the edge of the flattened area, giving you a wobble? That wouldn’t explain a squishy, flat tire feeling, though. CO2 escapes the tube faster than regular air does, but if you’ve topped up a few times since using the CO2, that probably isn’t relevant, especially if your pressure was still over 90 at the end of the ride. Worn sidewall, maybe?

I rode the W&OD east from Virginia Lane. From Virginia lane to Shreve it had a thin coating of ice/snow, passable easily on my 35 mm studded tires. I suspect its the same further west. I bailed and took the road at the section along the tennis courts where there is always more accumulation (there was last night at 830 on my ride home). I resumed the path in Falls Church City. The path was bumpy ice. Okay with studded tires but I bailed after a bit and took roads until EFC where the path was cleared last night.
I don’t have to go out there till later, but given how cold it is, and how cold it’ll be at 9:00 tonight when I’m on my way home, I think I’ll stick with the studs. Thanks for the info!

ParticipantAnyone ridden the W&OD out toward Vienna today? There was snow on it yesterday, and I don’t think it got brined.

He was sorry he had to show up in court, obviously. Real tragedy for him.

ParticipantW&OD from Shreve Rd in Falls Church to Maple Ave in Vienna is pretty sketchy. The blower cleared some areas, but at least half of the distance is very icy; the ice is hard packed and quite smooth from the blower, but I would have felt much more confident on studs. That said, I rode 95% of the way on medium-knobby 40s and did fine white-knuckling it. I am not taking the same route home, though: I’m opting for streets! I’ll ride studs tomorrow for sure, as I know that all of those shady low-lying areas on the trail will remain largely unchanged for days.

ParticipantI was driving down Shreve Rd and saw the blower working the W&OD going west. It looked like the trail was pretty clear east of there going into Falls Church City.

I am truly sorry you were hit,
I accept that. You’re the only one here who is.
This type of unfair jumping to conclusions is why people find you difficult to tolerate.

I believe it was a gearing modification. If we wait long enough, I’m sure he’ll be here to brag all about it, and tell us how justified he is in doing it.

At times the operator uses the adjacent path to compensate for cyclists who pass in an unsafe manner or ride side-by-side on each side of the yellow line or weave across both lanes of the path.
Not only do you drive your car on the trail, but you’re one of those people who is so pretentious as to refer to yourself in third person! I’m with Consular: just stop. Really.
